Seventy-five diabetic patients and 45 sex- and age-matched healthy controls were evaluated audiologically. Patients were classified into groups by severity of retinopathy: group 1 (n=28), no retinopathy, group 2 (n=4), background retinopathy; and group 3 (n=23), proliferative or end-stage retinopathy. Diabetics had a statistically significant difference at all frequencies of hearing loss, as compared with controls.Englishadultarticleaudiologycontrolled studydiabetic retinopathydisease associationdisease severityevaluationfemalehumanincidencemajor clinical studymalenon insulin dependent diabetes mellituspatient codingperception deafnessstatistical analysisvisual acuityRelationship of retinopathy and hearing loss in type 2 diabetes mellitusArticle10.1007/s12009-002-0026-4
