Item The psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (FACIT-Sp-12) in older adults living in nursing homes(CUMHURIYET UNIV TIP FAK PSIKIYATRI ANABILIM DALI) Ay, S; Gündüz, T; Özyurt, BC; Çoban, A; Piskin, AAObjective: This study was conducted to test the dimensionality, reliability and construct validity of the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (FACIT-Sp-12) for Turkish population. Methods: The cross-sectional design research was carried out with the elderly who lived in nursing homes in Manisa (n=133). The data were obtained by using the sociodemographic characteristics questionnaire, the FACIT-Sp-12 questionnaire reliability was assessed using the Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and test-retest reliability coefficients were assessed with Pearson's correlation. For the validity of the instrument; construct validity, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used. Results: Of the elderly who participated in the study, 60.9% were female, their mean age was 76.12 +/- 10.34. The mean score was 27.09 +/- 8.66 for the overall spiritual well-being scale, and 9.08 +/- 3.56 for the meaning subscale, 8.24 +/- 3.73 for the peace subscale, and 9.76 +/- 4.10 for the faith subscale. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between FACIT-Sp-12 scores and the three subdimensions. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.80 for the overall scale, 0.67 for the meaning subscale, 0.72 for the peace subscale, and 0.79 for the faith subscale. Fit statistics for the FACIT-Sp-12 scale for Turkish community met criteria: CFI= 0.95, RMSEA=0.070, TLI=0.91, SRMR=0.07. The goodness of fit index indicate that the model-data fit is provided for the model tested. Other fit index exhibited an acceptable level (GFI=0.92, RMR=0.063, NFI=0.90, IFI=0.90 and RFI=0.91. Conclusion: In validity analyses, construct validity was considered and tested by exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses to identify whether or not the three-factor model was verified. As a result, it was determined that the Spiritual WellBeing Scale is a valid and reliable tool and could be used for the elderly living in nursing homes in Turkey.Item Impact on quality of life and physical ability of pregnancy-related back pain in the third trimester of pregnancy(PAKISTAN MEDICAL ASSOC) Çoban, A; Arslan, GG; Çolakfakioglu, A; Sirlan, AThe aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of pregnancy-related back pain on quality of life and physical ability in the third trimester of pregnancy. One hundred women in the 28th-40th week of pregnancy were asked to fill out questionnaires including: general questions about background factors, the Katz's Activity's Daily Living Index (ADL), and Short Form of WHO Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF). Back pain intensity was assessed by visual analog scale (VAS), and functional limitation was measured by Oswestry Low Back Disability Questionnaire (OSW). It was found that, in the third trimester, pregnant women with back pain (PBP) with low pain intensity and moderate functional limitation did not have an impact on quality of life but decreased physical ability when compared to pregnant women with no back pain (NBP). As the back pain intensity of pregnant women increases, physical ability decreases.Item Factors Affecting the Quality of Life in Climacteric Women in Manisa Region(AVES YAYINCILIK, IBRAHIM KARA) Inceboz, Ü; Demirci, H; Özbasaran, F; Çoban, A; Nehir, SObjectives: To determine the factors affecting the severity of menopausal symptoms and the quality of life among women living in Manisa, a western city of Turkey. Patients and Methods: After statistical estimation of the sample size reflecting the whole population, 268 climacteric women (mean age 50.7 +/- 6.6 years; range 40 to 60 years) with menopausal symptoms were investigated by sociodemographic questionnaire, menopause rating scale (MRS), and Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL-BREF-TR) in Celal Bayar University Hospital. Results: Almost 1/3 of women had no knowledge on menopause. The MRS scores of women were inversely correlated with Physical Health, Psychological well-being, Social Relationship domains of quality of life. Educational level, menopausal knowledge, participation in decision-making in the family and economic status positively affected most domains of quality of life, whereas being married and having high BMI scores had negative effects. Conclusion: In climacteric women, quality of life was negatively affected by the severity of menopausal symptoms, low education level, limited menopausal knowledge, and being overweight.Item Starting the process of mother-infant bonding(WILEY) Sevil, Ü; Çoban, AItem Item Study on the Effects of Situation of Cigarette Smoking on University Students' Quality of Life(AVES) Sen, N; Arslan, GG; Çoban, A; Güngör, N; Kulbakan, S; Solar, MThis study was conducted as a definition in order to determine the effects of university students' cigarrette smoking habits on their quality of life. Samples were selected among students of Celal Bayar University Medicine Faculty, Science- Literature Faculty, Economy and Business Administration Faculty, Engineering Faculty and Gym Sports and Health Highschools and Health Services Career Highschool (N=5963). In determination of number of sample students for this study, the Certain Universe Sampling Selection Method was used (n=278). The number of students to be elected from various classes was however determined by the Categorial Sampling Method. Study data were gathered between the dates of 7th of February and 10th of March 2005. In this study, Social-Demographic Information Form and WHOQOL-BREF Quality of life Scale were used as data gathering means. In statistical evaluation, number-percentage dispersions, average and standard deviation values and t-test were used. Average students' age of starting to smoke was 17.03 +/- 2.23. It was established that there is a significant connection between university students' starting smoking age and quality of life psychology field (p<0.05). There is a meaningful relation among fields of quality of life such as physics, psychology and social fields and student smoking habits (p=0.00 <0.05). It is determined that among these students who smoke half a packet of cigarettes have a significant, meaningful relation between their quality of life and physics field (p<0.05). The results obtained show that students' smoking situations affect their quality of life.
