Mental health of both child and parents plays a larger role in the health-related quality of life of obese and overweight children
Kizilay, DÖ; Sapmaz, SY; Sen, S; Özkan, Y; Özyurt, BC; Ersoy, B
Aims: A decrease in health-related quality of life (HRQOL) measures among obese (OB) and overweight (OW) children has been shown in several studies, but knowledge about the variables affecting HRQOL impairments is missing. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between HRQOL and sociodemographic characteristics, anthropometric measurements, metabolic parameters, mental symptoms and parental attitudes in a sample of OB/OW children. Methods: Eighty-six OB/OW children, aged between 9 and 17 years, participated in the study. We performed sociodemographic questioning, anthropometric examinations and laboratory evaluations of the participants. HRQOL was assessed using the Pediatric Quality-of-Life Inventory (PedsQL), and levels of anxiety and depressive symptoms were measured using the Screen for Child Anxiety-Related Disorders (SCARED) questionnaire and the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), respectively. Parental attitudes were assessed with the Parental Attitude Research Instrument (PARI) questionnaire. Results: A statistically significant relationship was found between total scores of CDI and SCARED answered by children and the total and subscale scores of PedsQL. Scores of total quality of life subscale, physical functionality and emotional functionality subscales were significantly lower in children with a family history of mental illness. No relationship was found between PedsQL subscales, anthropometric and metabolic parameters. Conclusions: Emotional problems and parental psychological distress are important factors in models of HRQOL in the OB/OW pediatric population.

The Psychometric Properties of the New Turkish Generic Health-Related Quality of Life Questionnaire for Children (Kid-KINDL)
    Eser, E; Yüksel, H; Baydur, H; Erhart, M; Saatli, G; Özyurt, BC; Özcan, C; Ravens-Sieberer, U
Objective: There are few health-related quality of life (HRQOL) instruments available that have been validated for use with Turkish children, The Kid-KINDL is a generic measure of children's (8-12 years) HRQOL, which contains 24 categorical items that assess 6 dimensions (physical well-being, emotional well-being, self-esteem, family, friends, and school). The Kid-KINDL is available in many languages. Following on elaborate translation procedure and cognitive focus group interviews, the Kid-KINDL was adopted into Turkish. This paper describes the psychometric properties of the new Turkish Kid-KINDL. Methods: In total, 1918 children aged 8-12 years at a school in Manisa completed the Kid-KINDL. A confirmatory approach was used for validity and reliability analysis. Using the Multi-trait/Multi-item analysis program (MAP) item-internal consistency and item-discriminant validity were calculated to confirm the instrument's structure. Likert scaling assumptions were tested and confirmatory factor analysis (CIA) was applied as well. After modification of 2 unsatisfactory items the Kid-KINDL was administered to a different group of 84 randomly selected children and the analyses were repeated. Results: Cronbach's alpha was 0.35-0.78 before and 0.54-0.78 after the scales was modified. MAP-scaling success was 60%-100% before and 90%-100% after the modification. CIA confirmed the Kid-KINDL structure for the original version (RMSEA = 0.077) was less than the modified version (RMSEA = 0.059), although for the latter the sample was rather small, Floor effects were negligible, and ceiling effects reached 19%. Conclusion: The results indicate that the Turkish Kid-KINDL was a reliable and factorially valid assessment of the children's HRQOL. The modifications mode to the 2 unsatisfactory items increased the psychometric quality of the scale.

Appak, YÇ; Sapmaz, SY; Dogan, G; Herdem, A; Özyurt, BC; Kasirga, E
Background/Aims: Functional constipation (FC) is a common problem in childhood. In this study, we aimed to analyze the clinical and sociodemographic findings of patients with FC, parenting behaviors, and psychosocial states of children and parents. Materials and Methods: According to the Roma III diagnosis criteria, 32 patients with FC and 31 healthy controls were included. Patients' clinical and sociodemographic data set associated with constipation was determined. Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire was used to screen the emotional and behavioral problems in children. To evaluate the parents and family, Beck Depression Inventory, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Parental Attitude Research Instrument were used. Results: Emotional and peer problems subscale scores, parental concerns as well as over-parenting attitude were found higher in patients. Significant difference was also observed between the groups in terms of mean score of authoritarian attitude dimensions. Attitude of hostility and rejection and marital discordance was found to be significantly high in patient families. Our study revealed a decrease in the constipation rate with the increasing education level of parents, higher rate of constipation in families with less income than expenses, and lower rate of working mothers in patients with constipation. Parents' depressive symptoms and anxiety level were determined to be considerably higher. Conclusion: A mother's low education level, low socioeconomic level, presence of psychological symptoms, and problems of parental attitude-primarily the authoritarian attitude-increase the risk of FC occurrence. Therefore, FC patients and their families should definitely undergo a psychosocial assessment.

Should we worry about the eyes of celiac patients?
    Dogan, G; Sen, S; Çavdar, E; Mayali, H; Özyurt, BC; Kurt, E; Kasirga, E
Purpose: In this article, we evaluate subfoveal choroidal thickness in celiac patients with respect to adherence to the gluten-free diet and nonadherence to the gluten-free diet, comparing with age and sex matched healthy controls using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography. Materials and Methods: A case-control study among 42 celiac patients and 42 healthy participants was conducted in the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology. Celiac patients of our policlinics compliant with spectral-domain optical coherence tomography examination enrolled in the study. Celiac patients had been asked verbally about their adherence to gluten-free diet, were evaluated according to negative or positive EmA and anti-TG2 for defining adherence, and were divided into two groups (adherence to gluten-free diet and nonadherence to gluten-free diet). Results: Subfoveal choroidal thickness was thinner in EmA (+) or anti-TG2 (+) eyes than EmA(-) or anti-TG2 (-) eyes in celiac patients, but it was not statistically significant. The mean subfoveal choroidal thickness values in eyes with celiac disease, whose diagnosis time was longer than 60 months, were thinner than shorter group. Longer duration of gluten-free diet was associated with adherence difficulty and thinner choroidal thickness (r = -0.15, p = 0.34). Adherence to gluten-free diet was 88.2% for children below the age of 60 months and 57.1% for children older than 60 months. Conclusion: In conclusion, in addition to other extraintestinal manifestations of celiac disease, diagnosis time longer than 60 months in pediatric celiac patients, nonadherence to the gluten-free diet, and antibody positivity should be focused on during ophthalmologic examination and choroid measurement.

Ay, S; Gündüz, T; Özyurt, BC; Çoban, A; Piskin, AA
Objective: This study was conducted to test the dimensionality, reliability and construct validity of the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (FACIT-Sp-12) for Turkish population. Methods: The cross-sectional design research was carried out with the elderly who lived in nursing homes in Manisa (n=133). The data were obtained by using the sociodemographic characteristics questionnaire, the FACIT-Sp-12 questionnaire reliability was assessed using the Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and test-retest reliability coefficients were assessed with Pearson's correlation. For the validity of the instrument; construct validity, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used. Results: Of the elderly who participated in the study, 60.9% were female, their mean age was 76.12 +/- 10.34. The mean score was 27.09 +/- 8.66 for the overall spiritual well-being scale, and 9.08 +/- 3.56 for the meaning subscale, 8.24 +/- 3.73 for the peace subscale, and 9.76 +/- 4.10 for the faith subscale. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between FACIT-Sp-12 scores and the three subdimensions. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.80 for the overall scale, 0.67 for the meaning subscale, 0.72 for the peace subscale, and 0.79 for the faith subscale. Fit statistics for the FACIT-Sp-12 scale for Turkish community met criteria: CFI= 0.95, RMSEA=0.070, TLI=0.91, SRMR=0.07. The goodness of fit index indicate that the model-data fit is provided for the model tested. Other fit index exhibited an acceptable level (GFI=0.92, RMR=0.063, NFI=0.90, IFI=0.90 and RFI=0.91. Conclusion: In validity analyses, construct validity was considered and tested by exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses to identify whether or not the three-factor model was verified. As a result, it was determined that the Spiritual WellBeing Scale is a valid and reliable tool and could be used for the elderly living in nursing homes in Turkey.

ATTITUDES OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS TOWARDS THE ELDERLY
Elbi, H; Özcan, F; Özyurt, BC; Yayla, ME
Introduction: It is stated that negative attitudes towards the elderly affect the diagnosis and treatment processes negatively. Nevertheless, there are not enough recent studies examining the attitudes of family physicians who provide widespread healthcare to the elderly. The aim of this study was to evaluate the attitudes of family physicians towards the elderly. Material and Methods: Participants of this descriptive study are family physicians working actively in primary care. Data were collected through the software program, between January and June 2018. The link to the questionnaire was sent to the participants via e-mail. The questionnaire consisted of two parts: the sociodemographic data and University of California at Los Angeles Geriatrics Attitude (UCLA-GA) scale. Results: A total of 401 family physicians, 216 of whom (53.9%) were women, participated in the study. The mean age of the participants was 41.19 +/- 8.51 years. On evaluation of both the mean total score (42.36 +/- 3.42) and mean subscale score (3.02 +/- 0.24), it was observed that female participants scored significantly higher (p = 0.001). Moreover, the UCLA-GA medical care subscale score raised with increased working time at family medicine (r = 0.151, p = 0.002) or being a medical doctor (r = 0.14, p = 0.005) and with growing age (r = 0.15, p = 0.003). Conclusion: The results of our study showed that those with longer professional experience, being older age, and women are associated with positive attitude towards the elderly. However, intervention studies are required to improve family physicians' attitudes towards the elderly.

The long-term effects of topical latanoprost 0.005% treatment on pupillary functions: A 2-year longitudinal study
Bayraktar, S; Hondur, G; Sekeroglu, MA; Özyurt, BC; Sen, E
Purpose: To investigate the long-term effects of topical latanoprost 0.005% treatment on pupillary functions in early-stage primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) eyes using automated pupillometry. Methods: This prospective study involved 20 eyes of 20 treatment-naive subjects with early-stage POAG. After comprehensive ophthalmic examination, static and dynamic pupillometry measurements were performedbefore treatment, at the 1st follow-up visit (1.10 +/- 0.30 months) and the 2nd follow-up visit (25.85 +/- 10.26 months) after treatment initiation. Dynamic parameters included resting diameter (mm), amplitude (mm), latency (ms), duration (ms), and velocity (mm/s) of pupil contraction and dilation. Static pupillometry parameters were pupil diameter (PD, mm) in high-photopic, low-photopic, mesopic and scotopic conditions. Results: The velocity of pupil dilation significantly decreased during the 1st visit (p = 0.008) and the 2nd visit (p = 0.0003) of treatment compared to the pre-treatment visit. The resting PD was also significantly higher after the 1st visit (p = 0.003) and the 2nd visit (p = 0.001) compared to the pre-treatment visit. However, the difference in resting PD measured between the 1st and 2nd visits did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.065). There were no significant changes in other dynamic parameters (p > 0.05 for all). Additionally, a mild, but not significant, mydriatic effect was observed in PD measurements under scotopic, mesopic and low photopic lighting conditions after follow-up. None of the static and dynamic parameters correlate with age, changes in intraocular pressure (IOP) or mean deviation (MD) values of visual field tests. Conclusion: The long-term topical latanoprost 0.005% treatment in early-stage POAG has a slight mydriatic effect on the pupil. Further longitudinal clinical studies with larger patient cohorts are necessary to better understand the effects of latanoprost on pupillary functions.

    Health inequities
Östan, I; Kilimcioglu, AA; Girginkardesler, N; Özyurt, BC; Limoncu, ME; Ok, ÜZ
Background: Intestinal parasitic infections affect child health and development and slow down growth, while reducing adults' productivity and work capacity. The aim of the present study was to determine and compare the incidences of intestinal parasitic infections and the socio-economic status of two near primary school children in Manisa, a western city of Turkey. Methods: A total of 352 children were involved a questionnaire study from a private school (Ulkem Primary School-UPS, 116 children) and a community-based school (Sehzadeler Primary School-SPS, 236 children). Of these, stool samples could be obtained from a total of 294 students; 97 (83.6%) from UPS, and 197 (83.5%) from SPS. The wet mount preparations of the stool samples were examined; samples were also fixed in polyvinyl alcohol and examined with modified formalin ethyl acetate sedimentation and trichrome staining techniques. Data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows version 10.0. The chi-squared test was used for the analytic assessment. Results: The percentages of the students found to be infected with intestinal parasites, were 78 (39.6%) and 13 (13.4%) in SPS and UPS, respectively. Totally 91 (31.0%) of the students from both schools were found to be infected with at least one intestinal parasite. Giardia lamblia was found to be the most common pathogenic intestinal parasite and Blastocystis hominis was prevalent independently from the hygienic conditions. The factors which significantly (p < 0.05) increase the incidence of intestinal parasites were uneducated and unemployed mother, lower social status of father, living in crowded houses with insufficient indoor spaces, using the tap water as drinking water, and living at shanty areas. Conclusion: Intestinal parasitic infections in school children were found to be a public health problem that increased due to lower socio-economic conditions. We conclude that organization of education seminars including the topics such as prevention of the infectious diseases, improving general hygienic conditions, and application of supportive programs for the parents may be suggested not only to reduce intestinal parasitic infections, but also to elevate the socio-cultural levels.

Eskiizmir, G; Ovali, GY; Aras, F; Özyurt, BC; Tarhan, S
Objective: To determine the quantitative values of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), standardized uptake values (SUVmax, SUVmean), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), metabolic tumor volume indexes (MTImax, and MTImean) using diffusion weighted-MRI (DW-MRI) and positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT), and analyze the predictive and prognostic values of these biomarkers in a homogenous group of patients with advanced-stage laryngeal cancer. Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed advanced-stage laryngeal cancer who had both DW-MRI and 18F-FDG PET/CT before treatment, and who had curative cancer treatment (surgery +/- adjuvant therapy or radio +/- chemotherapy) between 2011 and 2015 were included in this study. All patients were followed up clinically and radiologically, if necessary every 3 months for the first 2 years, every 4-6 months for year 3, and then annually thereafter. Results: Thirty-eight patients were retrospectively analyzed. Our analysis demonstrated statistically significant differences when the pretreatment SUV and MTImean value were compared between patients with stages III and IV. Standardized uptake value was also a predictive factor for N-stage. Moreover, a statistically significant difference was determined when patients with and without perinodal involvement (PNI) were compared. Log rank analysis demonstrated that none of functional imaging-based biomarkers had a prognostic role for oncological outcomes. Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that pretreatment SUV and MTImean values were predictive factors for staging, N-stage and PNI. Indeed, functional imaging-based biomarkers are promising, novel, noninvasive techniques that may provide additional information about tumor characteristics, treatment selection and prognosis in the near future.

We aimed to investigate the frequency of occupational asthma (OA) and the factors associated with OA development in a bicycle factory, subsequently after the diagnosis of OA in three workers at the same department. Forty one welders, 23 painters and 46 controls (office workers), a total number of 110 cases were included in the study. Turkish Thoracic Society Occupational and Environmental Diseases Evaluation Questionnaire and physical examination, chest-X ray, pulmonary function tests were performed as needed. Peak expiratory flow (PEF) follow-up was done in welders and painters. Cases having symptoms related with work and >= 20% PEF variability were diagnosed as OA. Wheezing were more frequent in welders and painters than the control group, although there wasn't a statisticall significance. Dyspnea, cough and sputum production were more frequent in welders and painters with respect to controls (p<0.05). Nine (22%) welder, 4 (18%) painter were diagnosed as OA. Working duration of welders and painters with OA (72, 156 months, respectively) were longer than the welders and painters without OA (45, 76 months, respectively), but it did not have any statistically significance. We suggest that working in welding and painting departments may cause respiratory symptoms and OA.

Çetin, G; Kisabay, AA; Özyurt, BC; Selçuki, D
Objective: According to the ICHD-3 criteria, menstrual migraine (MM) is divided into two groups: pure menstrual migraine (PMM) and menstrually-related migraine (MRM). The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the severity of headache using a visual analog scale (VAS) and the effect on quality of life using the Headache Impact Test (HIT) and Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) tests before and after 3 months of treatment in using short-term prophylaxis with acetazolamide. Methods: Patients who presented to the headache outpatient clinic of the neurology department with a diagnosis of MM were retrospectively reviewed. Acetazolamide was given at a dosage of 500 mg daily for 5 days starting two days before the predicted onset of the menstrual cycle as a short-term prophylactic treatment. VAS, MIDAS, and HIT assessments were performed before and after treatment. Results: A total of 26 patients with PMM and 26 patients with MRM were identified. After acetazolamide treatment, statistically significant improvement was found in MIDAS, VAS and HIT scores in both groups of patients. The post-treatment MIDAS score was significantly lower in the MRM group, but there was no significant difference in post-treatment VAS and HIT scores between the groups. Conclusion: Using acetazolamide for short-term prophylaxis in patients with MM leads to decreased severity and frequency of headache and improvement in quality of life. The study is the first in the literature to use acetazolamide for short-term prophylaxis in patients diagnosed with MM.

Level of smoking of 3rd and 4th grade students studying health and related factors: follow-up study
Göktalay, T; Özyurt, BC; Coskun, AS; Çelik, P
The levels of smoking of 1st and 2nd year students at Faculty of Medicine and Manisa School of Health at Celal Bayar University were investigated in 2006-2007. This study is carried out in order to see if there is a change in the same students' level of smoking while they are in 3rd and 4th year. In addition, the study aimed to examine the factors affecting the level of use and attitudes towards the law effectuated in July 19, 2009. This is a follow-up study with 80.42% return rate. A 26-item structured questionnaire was administered. The participants filled out the questionnaires under supervision of the researchers in their classrooms. The University Institutional Review Board approved the study. The total of participants (263) of the follow-up study included 189 female and 74 male. The rate of experimenting with smoking was 49% with the mean age of 15.7 (SD= 4.01 years). The mean age of experimenting with smoking was the earliest on male students studying at faculty of medicine. The level of smoking was found to be the most on females, studying at faculty of medicine and staying at the dormitory, with smoking parents (p<0.05). The most important reason to begin smoking was curiosity (55.2%) while bad breath and yellowing of teeth were the reasons to quit (91.7%). 83.3% of the students thought that the law will be effective on quit smoking. The level of both experimenting and use of smoking has been increased over time. It is suggested that medical students' awareness about the danger of smoking should be raised at earlier grades. In addition, lectures should be offered to students at School of Health and they should be encouraged to unite in order to fight with smoking.

Association between neutrophil-lymphocyte & platelet lymphocyte ratios with prognosis & mortality in rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis
Toraman, A; Nese, N; Özyurt, BC; Kürsat, S
Background & objectives: Rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN) is a clinical syndrome manifested by features of nephritic syndrome and progressive loss of renal function over a short time. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and prognostic factors and pathological findings of renal biopsy in RPGN. Methods: Consecutive newly diagnosed RPGN patients who had follow up for at least six months were retrospectively analyzed. The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated. Albumin, C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and CRP/albumin ratio were also calculated. Results: Fifty four patients were included in the study. The mean age was 48.92 +/- 20.12 years. Clinicopathological diagnosis was pauci-immune glomerulonephritis (GN) in 40 while two had postinfectious GN, six systemic lupus erythematosus, three IgA nephropathy, two Henoch-Schonlein purpura and one membranoproliferative GN. The mean NLR was 7.02 +/- 6.34 and mean PLR was 273.90 +/- 39.15. Positive correlations between NLR and CRP levels (P=0.009, r=0.511) and CRP/albumin ratios (P=0.005, r=0.542) were observed. PLR and CRP/albumin ratios (P=0.041, r=0.412) were correlated positively. The percent of fibrocellular crescents was negatively correlated with NLR (P=0.019, r=-0.291), and positively correlated with the lymphocyte count (P=0.05, r=0.256). In secondary crescentic subgroup, the per cent of fibrinoid necrosis had a positive correlation with PLR (P=0.013, r=0.642). Both NLR (P=0.036) and PLR (P=0.051) detected at the first month of the treatment period, were observed to be significantly correlated with mortality. Interpretation & conclusions: This study showed that NLR could predict mortality in patients with RPGN; correlated with systemic inflammation; showed a negative correlation with the per cent of fibrocellular crescents and could be regarded as a measure of glomerular inflammatory state. Moreover, PLR may be considered to be an indicator of disease severity in acute phase of crescentic GN.

Neurocognitive effects and electrophysiological findings in ADHD and self-limiting centrotemporal spike wave epilepsy (SeLECTS) - A prospective tertiary care study
Orak, SA; Bilaç,ö; Polat, M; Sobay, NS; Yalçin, AH; Korkmaz, R; Kubur,ÇÇ; Atasever, AK; Yilmaz, C; Özyurt, BC
Objective: The study aimed to determine the prevalence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in patients with self-limiting epilepsy with centrotemporal spike wave (SeLECTS), as well as the electroclinical features associated with this comorbid condition and the neurocognitive effects using psychometric tests. Additionally, we analysed the electrophysiological findings and neurocognitive status of patients with ADHD to estimate the prevalence of epilepsy and neurocognitive effects in the ADHD population and evaluate their clinical features. Method: The study included patients diagnosed with SeLECT and ADHD who were matched for age and gender. Electrophysiological tests, psychometric tests, demographic and clinical characteristics of SeLECTS patients aged 7-13 years and ADHD patients of similar age were analysed. The study examined electrophysiological and psychometric tests, as well as demographic and clinical characteristics. Both groups underwent testing using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-R), Stroop Colour and Word Test (SCWT), and EEG (Electroencephalogram). The SeLECT group also underwent the Bender Visual-Motor Gestalt Test. Rsults: No significant relationship was found between the SeLECT and ADHD groups in terms of age and gender. The rate of epileptiform discharge in EEG findings without a diagnosis of epilepsy was 5.6 % (n = 2) in the ADHD group. The rate of ADHD in the SeLECTS group was 28 % (n = 11). Although all subsections of the WISCR test were higher in the ADHD patient group than in the SeLECTS patient group, only verbal IQ and total IQ showed a significant difference. No significant differences were found between the completion times, error rates, and correction averages of the SCWT sections in both groups. There was no significant correlation found between the performance IQ, verbal IQ, and total intelligence scores in either the isolated SeLECTS patient group or the SeLECTS + ADHD patient group (p > 0.05). However, it is worth noting that verbal IQ was below normal in both groups and slightly lower in the SeLECT + ADHD group. Additionally, the mean SeWT completion time was significantly longer in the SeLECT + ADHD group than in the isolated SeLECT group. However, no significant difference was found in the Bender Gestalt Visual Motor Perception Test. In the psychometric analyses comparing the isolated SeLECTS, SeLECT + ADHD, and ADHD patient groups, the SCWT completion times were significantly longer in the SeLECT + ADHD group than in the other two groups. The verbal IQ score was significantly higher in the ADHD group than in the other two groups. Conclusion: In conclusion, although SeLECTS is commonly considered a benign form of epilepsy, our study found a high rate of comorbidity with ADHD. This condition has a negative impact on verbal intelligence and sustained attention, highlighting the importance of a complete neuropsychological evaluation at the stage of epilepsy diagnosis. It is crucial not to overlook the possibility of an ADHD diagnosis.

Determination of Passive Smoke Exposure in Primary School Children in a Rural Area in Manisa
    Özyurt, BC
Objective: Exposure of children to tobacco smoke (ETS) is an important public health problem. The goal of this study was to determine the self-reported passive smoke exposure status of primary school students in grades 3 to 5. Material and Method: This cross-sectional study was carried out during December 2006. A total of 305 school children and a total of 277 parents were included in the study. The study was conducted on primary school students and their parents using a standard questionnaire. Parents were asked to complete a questionnaire about their smoking habits, their children's respiratory morbidity status and housing conditions. Descriptive statistics, chi-square and kappa analysis were used in data analysis. Results: According to the responses, 68.0% of the children came from households with smokers, and 58.3% had daily exposure to tobacco smoke. No relation was detected between the symptoms of respiratory tract diseases and ETS exposure. Conclusion: Study findings demonstrate the importance of ETS as a leading health issue in children. Exposure to tobacco smoke (ETS) in the home continues to be a major health risk for children.
