(Cukurova University, Faculty of Medicine, 2015) Yilmaz E.D.; Gençer G.; Ünal Ö.; Örek A.; Aydemİr Ö.; Deveci E.; Kirpinar İ.
Objective: This study aims to determine Nine Types Temperament Model (NTTM), which is a new temperament model, with Psychobiological Personality Model (PPM) and Affective Temperament Model (ATM) and define the possible relations between categories and dimensions and their degrees of predicting each other. Methods: The sample group consists of 206 healthy volunteers who did not receive any psychiatric treatment in their life and do not have any chronic disease. Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV (SCID-I), Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-III-R personality disorders (SCID-II), Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI), Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris and San Diego Autoquestionnaire Version (TEMPS-A) and Nine Type Temperament Scale (NTTS) were used to collect data. Results: Except for NTM3, NTM8 and NTM9 temperament categories, all NTTS categories have significant correlation with various TCI dimensions at a level r=0.40 and above. Except for NTM1, NTM5 and NTM9 temperament categories, all NTTS categories have significant correlation with various TEMPS-A categories at a level r=0.40 and above. According to the results of regression analyses, it is found that TCI dimensions and TEMPS-A categories can explain 29-63% of variance of NTTS temperament categories. Conclusion: This study indicates that although there are consistent and significant correlations between dimensions and categories of NTTS and the two scales widely used in psychiatry, there are conceptual differences between NTTM, PPM and ATM and temperament categories of NTTM have unique features. © 2015, Cukurova University, Faculty of Medicine. Is individual temperament centered psychotherapy possible: A proposal based on nine types temperament model
    (Chevron Publishing Corporation, 2015) Yılmaz E.D.; Ünal Ö.; Gençer A.G.; Aydemir Ö.; Selçuk Z.
Although there are many psychotherapy approaches today, it can be stated that a psychotherapy approach that is based on the temperament concept, which constitutes the structural basis of individual differences, does not exist. Even though the models focusing on explaining the temperament and the personality draw attention to the importance of these concepts in psychotherapy, these models did not formulate an important psychotherapy approach that places these concepts in its center. In fact, temperament is a key concept, which forms the smallest psychological building stone of individuals, determines the psychopathologic predispositions and the duration of experiencing of the psychopathology by an individual. Thus, temperament concept can be a focus point for the therapeutic approaches. In this study, we proposed the basic approaches and methods of individual temperament centered psychotherapy from the perspective of Nine Types Temperament Model that centers temperament concept. This can be an awareness-based, non-eclectic, different, holistic and systematic psychotherapy approach which can enable the balancing of behaviors, emotions and ideas of an individual. At the same time, we tried to define a general course of actions for therapists to structure what kind of a therapeutic approach they will apply, which can be considered as a starting point to form a psychotherapy model that considers the human being in a holistic way from normal to psychopathology and focuses on causality. © 2015, Chevron Publishing Corporation. Evaluating individual differences in patients with major depressive disorder focused on nine types temperament model; [Major depresif bozukluk tanılı hastaların bireysel farklılıkları üzerine dokuz tip mizaç modeli odaklı bir inceleme]
    (ANP Publishing, 2020) Üstündağ M.F.; Yılmaz E.D.; Uğur K.; Ünal Ö.; Herdem A.; Aydın O.; Aydemir Ö.
Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and MDD specifiers with temperament and personality traits with a perspective focused on Nine Type Temperament Model (NTTM). Method: 203 healthy participants who are matched with the 208 MDD participants group between 18-60 years old and in at least eight weeks remission period and treatment in progress, without an additional diagnosis were included in the study. Socio-demographic data form, Nine Types of Temperament Scale (NTTS) and Temperament Character Inventory (TCI) were applied to all participants, and in addition, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) were applied to the subjects with MDD. MDD specifiers were evaluated using follow-up data files. Results: According to results, both Nine Type Temperament (NTT) Model’s types, which are NTT1, NTT2, NTT3, NTT4, NTT6 and NTT8, and Psychobiological Personality Model’s dimensions which are consisted of the cooperation, persistence, harm avoidance and self-management were found to be associated with MDD. From the point of MDD determinants; anxiety-distressing characteristics are associated with NTM2, NTM3, NTM6, NTM9; melancholy characteristics is concerned with NTT1, NTT5 and NTT6; seasonal characteristics are related to NTT4; mixed features are relevant with NTT4 and NTT7; and atypical features are associated with NTT5, NTT7, NTT9. As a result, MDD determinants are found to be associated with temperament types which are coming from NTTM. Discussion: It is seen that temperament, which constitutes the structural basis of personality, is an effective parameter both in the diagnosis and in the individual-specific recognition of symptomatology in MDD patients. In addition, it can be said that temperament can be a discriminating factor in defining MDD specifiers. The development of temperament-oriented diagnosis and treatment strategies in future studies may be beneficial for the practice. © 2020 ANP Publishing. All rights reserved.
