Item Dysmenorrhea characteristics of female Students of health school and affecting factors and their knowledge and use of complementary and alternative medicine methods(Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2015) Midilli T.S.; Yasar E.; Baysal E.The purpose of this study was to examine the menstruation and dysmenorrhea characteristics and the factors affecting dysmenorrhea of health school students, and the knowledge and use of the methods of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) on the part of those students with dysmenorrhea. This is a descriptive study. A descriptive analysis was made by calculating the number, percentage, mean, Pearson χ2, and logistic regression analysis. A total of 488 female students participated in the research and 87.7% (n = 428) of all students experienced dysmenorrhea. It was detected that a family history of dysmenorrhea and regular menstrual cycles of the students were dysmenorrhea-affecting factors (P <.05). Seven of 10 students with dysmenorrhea used CAM methods. Heat application of CAM methods for dysmenorrhea management was the most commonly used and also known by the students. The students who experienced severe pain used analgesics (P <.05) and CAM methods (P <.05). This study was a descriptive survey conducted at a nursing school providing degree-level education in the city of Manisa, in the western part of Turkey. The sample of the study consisted of the 400 nursing students. A nursing student sociodemographic form, a form on nursing students’ knowledge and practices of spirituality and spiritual care, and the Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale were used to collect the data. Half of the students could meet patients’ or individuals’ spiritual needs, and the spiritual care that they gave was most frequently listening, empathy, and psychological support. The research findings were that nursing students’ perceptions of spirituality and spiritual care were “sufficiently” although not “very sufficiently” defined. Being female, being in the second year of education and seeing spiritual care education as necessary were determinants of their perceptions of spirituality and spiritual care. © 2016 by the authors; licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.Item Monte Carlo calculations of the incineration of plutonium and minor actinides of laser fusion inertial confinement fusion fission energy (LIFE) engine(Institute of Physics Publishing, 2018) Acir A.; Baysal E.In this paper, neutronic analysis in a laser fusion inertial confinement fusion fission energy (LIFE) engine fuelled plutonium and minor actinides using a MCNP codes was investigated. LIFE engine fuel zone contained 10 vol% TRISO particles and 90 vol% natural lithium coolant mixture. TRISO fuel compositions have Mod: reactor grade plutonium (RG-Pu), Mod: weapon grade plutonium (WG-Pu) and Mod: minor actinides (MAs). Tritium breeding ratios (TBR) were computed as 1.52, 1.62 and 1.46 for Mod, Mod and Mod, respectively. The operation period was computed as ∼21 years when the reference TBR > 1.05 for a self-sustained reactor for all investigated cases. Blanket energy multiplication values (M) were calculated as 4.18, 4.95 and 3.75 for Mod, Mod and Mod, respectively. The burnup (BU) values were obtained as ∼1230, ∼1550 and ∼1060 GWd tM-1, respectively. As a result, the higher BU were provided with using TRISO particles for all cases in LIFE engine. © 2018 Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences and IOP Publishing.Item The Effect of Music on Dyspnea Severity, Anxiety, and Hemodynamic Parameters in Patients with Dyspnea(Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2018) Ergin E.; Sagkal Midilli T.; Baysal E.This randomized controlled study (pretest, posttest, test control group) was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of music on the severity of dyspnea, anxiety, and hemodynamic parameters in patients with dyspnea. The research was conducted in the Chest Diseases Service of a public hospital in the western region of Turkey. The number of patients included in the sample was determined by power analysis, and as a result, 60 patients were accepted, 30 in the music group and 30 in the control group. Sixty percent of the patients who took part in the study were male, their mean age was 61.21 ± 1.13 years, and their mean dyspnea severity before the intervention was 62.68 ± 22.28. The difference between the mean dyspnea severity and anxiety scores of the music group patients before and after the application of music was found to be statistically significant (P <.05), but no statistically significant difference was found in hemodynamic parameters (P >.05). In light of the research findings, it was concluded that music had an effect on anxiety and the severity of dyspnea in patients with dyspnea but that it had no effect on hemodynamic parameters. © 2018 by The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association. Blood samples were (a) venous blood, (b) the first and second drops of capillary blood from the middle finger of the right hand (only washed with soap and water), and (c) the first and second drops of capillary blood from the middle finger of the left hand (washed with soap and water and cleaned with alcohol). It was concluded that the fasting capillary blood glucose values could be used in place of venous blood glucose values, that only washing the hands with neutral soap and water for 30 s could be sufficient for capillary blood glucose measurement, and that the first or second blood drop from a clean hand could be used for capillary blood glucose measurement. © The Author(s) 2017.Item The Effect of Cryotherapy on the Prevention of Oral Mucositis and on the Oral pH Value in Multiple Myeloma Patients Undergoing Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation(Elsevier Inc., 2021) Baysal E.; Sari D.; Vural F.; Çağırgan S.; Saydam G.; Töbü M.; Şahin F.; Soyer N.; Gediz F.; Acarlar C.; Timur E.; Güngör A.Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of cryotherapy on the prevention of oral mucositis (OM) and on the oral pH value in patients with multiple myeloma undergoing autologous stem cell transplantation. Data Sources: This nonrandomized controlled clinical trial was carried out in Bone Marrow Transplant Centers of three hospitals with total 32 patients. In addition to standard oral care, a total of 80 minutes of cryotherapy was applied to the experimental group. OM was assessed according to the World Health Organization's Oral Toxicity Scale before chemotherapy and for 21 days after chemotherapy (every day in the first 14 days, then every other day until the 21st day [if not discharged]). Conclusion: According to the findings, cryotherapy did not change the incidence of oral OM, and neither affected the severity of nor decreased the duration of it. Oral pH value was found to be significantly different between the patient groups only before and 1 day after chemotherapy. Implications for Nursing Practice: Cryotherapy is an inexpensive, easy-to-use method with no side effects; it would be beneficial to continue cryotherapy to prevent the development of OM in patients with cancer receiving drugs with a short half-life such as melphalan. It is also recommended to conduct further studies with different chemotherapy drugs with short half-lives to determine its effect on the prevention of OM development. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.Item NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF THERMAL AND FRICTION CHARACTERISTICS OF TURBULENT FLOW THROUGH A CIRCULAR TUBE WITH PLATE INSERTS(Begell House Inc., 2021) Baysal E.; Bademci N.In this study, a plate-type turbulator placed in a circular tube and analysis of the turbulators with different pitches and different fin angles formed on the plate were investigated numerically. Heat transfer performance and friction factor were investigated for Reynolds number 4000-30,000 for each type of turbulator. The basic conservation equations are solved in the steady state in 3D under the turbulent flow conditions by using the ANSYS Fluent commercial code with the realizable k-e turbulence model based on the finite volume method. Numerical analysis results were obtained in the study conducted according to different flow rates of air. As a result of the analysis, it was observed that the Nusselt number increased depending on the Reynolds number as the fin pitch distance became shorter and the fin angle increased. The use of each turbulator provided thermal improvement compared to the empty heat exchanger, and the highest thermal performance was obtained with the Modj 60° turbulator at a rate of 208.57%. In addition, the effects of the obtained temperature contours and velocity vectors on the flow characteristics of the turbulator in the heat exchanger were investigated. © 2021 Begell House Inc.. By using a turbulator in the flow, effects such as the thinning and breaking of the boundary layer thickness in the flow region, the creation of additional turbulence in the inner circumference of the pipe, the formation of eddy flows in the area of the flow, and the increase in the flow length as a result of the differentiation of the turbulator steps. In this review, turbulators are used in a counter-flow tube heat exchanger. From the area between the two pipes, water at a constant volumetric flow of 50 l / h and a temperature of 298.14 K passes, while air at a temperature of 350 K passes through the inner pipe. The annular type turbulators placed in the inner pipe were investigated numerically in different steps. Pressure drop and friction factor characteristics were investigated for empty and different pitch turbulator models for the Reynolds number range 4000-26000. By using the numerical fluid dynamics program that performs analysis based on finite volume method, the conservation equations are analyzed for three-dimensional conditions in steady regime and for conditions where the flow is turbulent. Numerical analysis was performed according to different flow rates of the internal fluid air and results were obtained. Pressure and velocity contours were created in the heat exchanger according to numerical analysis data. It has been observed that with the addition of a turbulator, the pressure loss is realized for the minimum 100 mm pitch and the highest 25 mm pitch turbulator. It is concluded that the pressure drops increase with the shortening of the step distance in the turbulators, and the pressure drops increase with the increase of the Reynolds number. © 2021, TUBITAK. Background: The emergence of COVID-19 has affected the psychological and professional quality of life of the frontline health care workers, especially nurses. Design: An online cross-sectional multicultural study. Methods: A total of 1071 nurses from Turkey, Brazil, Spain and Italy were selected by convenience sampling. All participants were invited to complete the Fear of COVID-19 Scale and Professional Quality of Life Scale through online form from October 2020 to January 2021. Results: It has been seen that nurses' fear of COVID-19 has been above the average and their professional quality of life has been affected negatively during the pandemic. Almost one out of three nurses (28.6%) thought of quitting their job during the pandemic. The majority of nurses (91.0%) thought their professional quality of life changed during the pandemic. The mean score of the Fear of COVID-19 Scale is higher in nurses who are working in Brazil, are female, have a chronic illness and are working in an outpatient clinic. Professional quality of life is even lower in nurses who are younger than 40, have a professional experience of less than 15 years, are working in Brazil and have concerns about themselves and their relatives because of COVID-19. Conclusions: It was determined that there was a relationship between fear of COVID-19 and professional quality of life subscales of nurses. Implications for Nursing Management: Nurse leaders have an important role in supporting nurses actively during and after the COVID-19 pandemic and providing them with good working conditions, sufficient resources and rewards. In order for nurses to be able to cope with the challenges brought about by the pandemic, particularly the fear of COVID-19, and to avoid thoughts of quitting the profession, it would be beneficial to take certain administrative measures on institutional and territorial basis. It is recommended that employees with a chronic disease work in low-risk clinics, the number of nurses be increased in busier clinics, working hours be reduced and nurses be provided with psychosocial support by experts to cope with stress. On the other hand, effective infection control, personal protective measures and implementing institutional policies and protocols can help to reduce the fear of COVID-19 and increase their professional quality of life. © 2022 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Item Knowledge Level about Evidence-based Practices in Central Venous Catheter Care of Nurses Working in Bone Marrow Transplant Units: A Cross-sectional Study(UNISA, University of South Africa, Department of Advanced Nursing Sciences, 2022) Baysal E.; Timur E.The purpose of the current study was to assess the knowledge level about evidence-based practices in central venous catheter (CVC) care of nurses working in the bone marrow transplant (BMT) units of 19 hospitals across Turkey. Between September 2021 and June 2022, an online cross-sectional study was conducted with 108 nurses working in the BMT units who met the inclusion criteria. The "Individual Information Form"and the "Central Venous Catheter Care (CVC) Knowledge Form"were used to collect the data. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics, the independent samples t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The study found that almost all (99.1%) of the nurses working in the BMT units had received CVC care training, and their knowledge level about evidence-based practices in CVC care was above average (14.250 ± 2.131). The nurses who thought their education was sufficient (p = 0.028) and who used the guidelines for CVC care had a significantly higher knowledge level (p = 0.022). The study concluded that nurses working in the BMT units should receive regular training on evidence-based practices in CVC care, and their feedback on the adequacy and content of the training should be solicited. © Unisa Press 2022.Item The effect of dark chocolate and music on pain and anxiety in young women with primary dysmenorrhea: Randomized controlled trial(Elsevier GmbH, 2022) Karakuş Selçuk A.; Baysal E.Introduction: Music medicine and dark chocolate may be potentially effective in helping reduce pain and anxiety in primary dysmenorrhea (PD). The aim of the study was to determine the effects of music medicine and dark chocolate on primary dysmenorrhea related pain intensity and anxiety level in young women. Methods: This was was a non-blinded, three-parallel group randomized controlled trial. The study included 18–25-year-old nulliparous nursing students with PD having a regular menstruation cycle and a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) severity of menstrual pain of 5 and over during the previous 6 months. Ninety nursing students were randomly allocated into one of the three groups; dark chocolate, music, or control. The study was completed with 84 nursing students because some participants did not want to continue the study and used analgesics. In the first month, 84 students (chocolate: 30, music: 25, control: 29) completed the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). In the second month, menstrual pain intensity and state anxiety were measured on the first day of menstruation using VAS and STAI, respectively, on 84 students. The dark chocolate group had dark chocolate for three days before menstruation and on the first day of menstruation in the third month. The music group listened to a song for the same four days. The pain scores and state anxiety were measured in all groups after the interventions. Results: Mean menstrual pain intensity and mean anxiety level in the dark chocolate and music group decreased significantly after the intervention. No significant difference was observed in the control group. The difference between menstrual pain intensity and anxiety levels of the groups was tested by analysis of variance, and the standardized effect size calculated at 95% confidence level, and α = 0.05 was 0.35 and 0.42, respectively. Conclusions: Both dark chocolate and music medicine significantly reduced menstrual pain and anxiety in young women with primary dysmenorrhea. Further research is needed to draw stronger conclusions on their impact on controlling menstrual pain and anxiety in primary dysmenorrhea as a nursing intervention. clinicaltrials.gov. Method: In this study, turbulators were employed in a counterflow concentric pipe-type heat exchanger. Water at a flow rate of 50 l/h and a temperature of 298.14 K, and air at a temperature of 350 K were directed through the inner pipe. The different stages of circular turbulators placed inside the inner pipe were numerically investigated using the feasible κ-ε turbulence model. Heat transfer characteristics were examined for a turbulator-free heat exchanger and for turbulator-heat exchanger models with helical turbulators of 25, 50, 75, and 100 mm pitch at Reynolds numbers ranging from 4000 to 26000. The governing equations for three-dimensional and turbulent flow conditions in a steady state were solved using a computational fluid dynamics program based on the finite volume method. Temperature distributions and velocity contours in the heat exchanger were generated using the data obtained from numerical analysis. Additionally, predictions were made using artificial neural networks. Results: The results revealed that the highest enhancement in heat transfer, amounting to 233.08% compared to the empty tube case, was achieved with the 25 mm pitch turbulator. Conclusion: The predictions made using artificial neural networks were in good agreement with the numerical analysis results. The designed turbulators for the heat exchanger model promoted turbulent flow, increased the heat transfer area, and led to an improvement in heat transfer. © 2023 Bentham Science Publishers.Item A real-time simulation environment architecture for autonomous vehicle design; [Otonom araç tasarimi için gerçek zamanli benzetim ortami mimarisi](Gazi Universitesi, 2023) Özçevik Y.; Solmaz Ö.; Baysal E.; Ökten M.Various proposed approaches for autonomous driving basically involve an image processing and a machine learning process. It is extremely important to use appropriate image processing techniques and a comprehensive data set in these approaches. Moreover, the proposed model must work in real-time. On the other hand, designing and manufacturing an autonomous vehicle model results in serious hardware costs. In addition, the design and manufacturing processes need to be repeated to develop new approaches. In this context, utilizing a real-time simulation environment can be seen as a suitable approach for a less costly prevalidation of such models. In this study, a real-time simulation architecture is developed with Unity framework to test an autonomous driving model. In addition, an autonomous driving model that includes lane tracking and object recognition approaches is proposed, and an autonomous vehicle simulation is created. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed simulation architecture is tested with the convolutional neural networks-based YOLO algorithm and R-CNN algorithm versions. According to the findings, it is observed that Faster R-CNN, Mask R-CNN and YOLO-v4 algorithms produce results with 91%, 93% and 95% accuracy, respectively. It has been determined that these results are close to the accuracy rates obtained on different traffic sign data sets in the literature. Considering the outcomes, it is argued that a vehicle simulation with an autonomous driving model has been successfully tested in the proposed system architecture. © 2023 Gazi Universitesi Muhendislik-Mimarlik.
