Item Genetic relationships among some hawthorn (Crataegus spp.) species and genotypes(2010) Yilmaz K.U.; Yanar M.; Ercisli S.; Sahiner H.; Taskin T.; Zengin Y.The genus Crataegus is well distributed in Turkey as a wild plant, with numerous, inherently variable species and genotypes. RAPD markers were used to study 17 hawthorn genotypes belonging to Crataegus monogyna ssp. monogyna Jacq (2 genotypes), C. monogyna ssp. azarella Jacq (1), Crataegus pontica K.Koch (3), Crataegus orientalis var. orientalis Pallas Ex Bieb (3), Crataegus pseudoheterophylla Pojark (1), Crataegus aronia var. dentata Browicz (1), C. aronia var. aronia Browicz (4), and Crateagus × bornmuelleri Zabel (2). The 10 RAPD primers produced 72 polymorphic bands (88% polymorphism). A dendrogram based on Jaccard's index included four major groups and one outgroup according to taxa. The lowest genetic variability was observed within C. aronia var. aronia genotypes. The study demonstrated that RAPD analysis is efficient for genotyping wild-grown hawthorns. © 2010 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.Item Physico-chemical and biological activity of hawthorn (Crataegus spp. L.) fruits in Turkey; [Fizykochemiczna i biologiczna aktywność owoców głogu (Crataegus spp. L.) w Turcji](Wydawnictwo Akad Rolniczej W Lublinie, 2015) Ercisli S.; Yanar M.; Sengul M.; Yildiz H.; Topdas E.F.; Taskin T.; Zengin Y.; Yilmaz K.U.Hawthorn (Crataegus spp. L.) is a native fruit of great economic importance in Turkey and has been widely using in folk medicine particularly for the treatment of mild heart diseases for a long time. In the study, 18 previously selected hawthorn genotypes belong to several Crataegus species grown in the hawthorn repository collection in Malatya province in Turkey were evaluated. Fruit mass and soluble solid content of selected genotypes ranged from 0.76 to 4.27 g and 6.71 to 15.83%, respectively. The genotype 44MA12 belongs to C. monogyna subsp. azarella had distinct and the highest anthocyanin (516 mg per 100 g fresh fruit) content and the strongest 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging capacity (2.91 μg·g−1). The genotype 44MA11 belongs to C. meyeri had the highest phenolic content (3460 mg per 100 g gallic acid equivalent in fresh fruits). All hawthorn genotypes displayed high antioxidant activity. The results suggest that hawthorn fruits including significant human health benefit substances and may be used for developing functional foods because of its high phenolic, anthocyanin content and antioxidant properties. © Copyright by Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Przyrodniczego w Lublinie, Lublin 2015.Item Ultrasound-assisted extraction with natural deep eutectic solvent for phenolic compounds recovery from Rosa damascene Mill.: Experimental design optimization using central composite design(Elsevier Inc., 2024) Koraqi H.; Aydar A.Y.; Khalid W.; Ercisli S.; Rustagi S.; Ramniwas S.; Pandiselvam R.Combining natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) and ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) created a green extraction medium for important phenolic compounds recovery from Rosa damascene Mill. For this purpose, three different NADES based on lactic acid were designed and tested as green extraction solvents. Citric acid, glucose, mannitol, and glycerol were used as hydrogen bond donors (HBD), while lactic acid as a hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA). The best extraction efficiency was demonstrated by NADESLACAGLY, which contains lactic acid, citric acid, and glycerol (3:1:2) compare with two other NADES (NADESLAGLU and NADESLAMA) and conventional solvents (ethanol and methanol). These parameters included total phenolic compounds (TPC), total flavonoid compounds (TFC), and antioxidant activity (AA). Then the UAE procedure was optimized through response surface methodology (RSM) using central composite design (CCD). Quadratic models produced a satisfactory fitting of the experimental data with regard to total phenolic compounds (R2 = 0.9625, p < 0.0001 and p < 0.05), total flavonoid compounds (R2 = 0.9682, p < 0.0001 and p < 0.05), and antioxidant activity (R2 = 0.9940, p < 0.0001 and p<0.05). An extraction time of 60 min, a solvent volume of 35 mL, and an amount of water in NADES 30 % (v/v) were considered optimal conditions. The present study demonstrates the potential for creating eco-friendly solvents with enhanced extraction capabilities compared to organic solvents for the extraction of bioactive compounds from various natural sources that are used as natural food colorants and cosmetic dyes. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.
