Item Checklist and review of the scorpion fauna of Iraq (Arachnida: Scorpiones)(Arachnologische Gesellschaft e.V., 2021) Kachel H.S.; Al-Khazali A.M.; Hussen F.S.; Yagmur E.A.The knowledge of the scorpion fauna of Iraq and its geographical distribution is limited. Our review reveals the presence in this country of 19 species belonging to 13 genera and five families: Buthidae, Euscorpiidae, Hemiscorpiidae, Iuridae and Scorpionidae. Buthidae is, with nine genera and 15 species, the richest and the most diverse family in Iraq. Synonymies of several scorpion species were reviewed. Due to erroneous identifications and locality data, we exclude 18 species of scorpion from the list of the Iraqi fauna. The geographical distribution of Iraqi scorpions is discussed. Compsobuthus iraqensisAl-Azawii, 2018, syn. nov. is synonymized with C. matthiesseni (Birula, 1905). © 2021 Arachnologische Gesellschaft e.V.. All rights reserved.Item External morphology of Hemiscorpius lepturus Peters, 1861 (Scorpiones: Hemiscorpiidae)(KMK Scientific Press, 2023) Hussen F.S.; Erdek M.; Yağmur E.A.Hemiscorpius lepturus Peters, 1861 is redefined in both sexes. The detailed external morphologies of chelae, pectinal organs, chelicerae, telsons, and legs I–IV were surveyed with the scanning electron microscope (SEM) in both sexes of H. lepturus for the first time. The constellation arrays, bat-like shaped peg sensilla, trichobothria, and the other sensillar and epicuticular structures were described, and their functional morphologies were interpreted considering the species’ habitat and other climatic preferences. The constellation arrays, basiconic sensilla, function as a chemoreceptor (hygro-reception or/and thermo-reception) by its location on the pedipalp in the habitat. The shape of the peg sensilla is remarkably bat-like in both sexes and this shape has not been observed or recorded in any scorpion species, functioning as mechanoreception and contact chemoreception. There are three slit sensilla as single slit, dual and triple slit sensilla on I–IV walking legs, being mechanoreceptors as proprioceptors detecting strain and substrate vibrations during movement. Isolated single slit sensillum was recorded on the chelicerae surface of a scorpion species for the first time. © ARTHROPODA SELECTA, 2023.Item Two new species of the genus Scorpio L., 1758 from Southеastеrn Turkey (Scorpiones: Scorpionidae); [Два новых вида скорпионов рода Scorpio L., 1758 из юго-восточной Турции (Scorpiones: Scorpionidae)](KMK Scientific Press, 2024) Yağmur E.A.; Hussen F.S.; Karakurt S.; Kurt R.; Sipahioğlu Ö.; Kartal İ.Two new species, Scorpio karakurti sp.n. and S. sirnakensis sp.n. are described and illustrated from the Southеastеrn region of Turkey. S. karakurti sp.n. is detected from Batman and Diyarbakır provinces and can be distinguished from all species of the genus Scorpio by its higher pectinal teeth numbers, especially in males (10–11 in females and 11–15 in males). S. sirnakensis sp.n is detected from Şırnak province and can be distinguished by elongated chela and telson shape and genital operculum shape of females. The new species are compared with the known species of the genus Scorpio Linnaeus, 1758 in the Middle East. © ARTHROPODA SELECTA, 2024.
