Item The role and importance of cattle breeders association on bovine breeding in turkey: A case study in western part of Turkey(2009) Koctürk O.M.The Pedigree System was introduced under Turkish-German (GTZ) and Turkish-Italian (ANAFI) projects and the legislation was begun to be issued in 2000. In the legislative research, the rules of European countries, the EU legislation and the ICAR (Internal Committee for Animal Recording) have been taken into account. With approval of the Minister's Office, the Cattle Breeders' Central Association was delegated the authority to conduct the herdbook system in Turkey. The aim of this study is to outline the activities of the cattle breeding unions, which were started to be founded in 1995 and to have a close look and to have a close look at the Cattle Breeders' Association of Manisa. Sixty percent of the cattle in Turkey are now within the scope of pedigree and prepedigree system. The percent in Manisa is approximately 91%. Producers who use the pedigree system state that the system does not have much effect on their income and welfare. The main problem here is that the production costs are high but the price of the milk is low. To overcome this problem the organization process of CBAT cooperatives has to be completed. © Medwell Journals, 2009.Item Energy and cost analysis of sultana grape growing: A case study of Manisa, west Turkey(2009) Koctürk O.M.; Engindeniz S.Turkey, located on the most suitable place on earth for vinegrowing, has a remarkably old and essential vinegrowing history as well as being the centre of grape-vine gene. Turkey's share in grape production area and world production in 2007 were 7 and 6%, respectively. The purpose of this study is to analyse the use of energy in sultana grape production in Manisa, a significant production area in Turkey and to determine the variable costs and gross margin of sultana grapes production. For this purpose, 48 farmers were selected and their 2008 growing season records examined. Winegrowing (viticulture and enology) is a global industry, representing a significant demand on the world's resources, including fossil fuels. Nowadays, energy use in agricultural production in Turkey is becoming more intensive due to the use of energy-intensive inputs. The total energy input necessary for sultana grape production was 37,488.00 MJ/ha. The research results indicated that the total energy input used for grape production was mainly dependent on non-renewable energy forms. The values of gross product and total variable costs were US$ 6,039.00 and US$ 2,847.23, respectively. Therefore, gross margin was calculated to be US$ 3,191.77. © 2009 Academic Journals.
