    The Effect of Oxalic Acid on Corrosion Resistance of Hydroxyapatite Sol-Gel Coated Ti6Al4V Alloys

    In this study, it was aimed to develop an effective biomaterial for use in biomaterial applications, and hydroxyapatite coatings were made on Ti6Al4V substrate materials using the sol-gel method. With the sol-gel method, it was aimed to obtain a crack-free coating layer with high bioactivity and corrosion resistance. For this purpose, different ratios of oxalic acid (OA, C2H2O4) were added to the prepared hydroxyapatite solutions, and the changes in the coating morphology of this chemical were examined. Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectrum (SEM-EDS) and X-Ray diffraction (XRD) were used for analyzes. The changes in the corrosion properties of the samples were investigated by electrochemical-potentiodynamic corrosion tests carried out using a three-electrode system in the prepared simulated body fluid. As a result of the study, it was observed that with the increase of the OA contribution rate, the distances between the coating islets were closed, the cracks observed in morphology were decreased and largely prevented. When the corrosion rates were compared, it was observed that in the samples where the amount of OA was 0.001 % by weight and 0.015, the corrosion rate was 10 times less than that of other additives and 5 times less than the samples without additives.
