Item Ecological quality status of the Turkish coastal waters by using a marine macrophytic biotic index (EEI-c)(2023) HAKAN ATABAY; Ersin Minareci; ERGÜN TASKIN; İbrahim Tan; Özge SUNGUR; Orkide Minareci; Murat CAKIRThe present study includes the results of the second benthic macrophytes’ monitoring period of a survey of ecological status from the Turkish coasts. The biotic index Ecological Evaluation Index (EEI-c) was used to assess the ecological status classes (ESC) and MA-LUSI the anthropogenic pressures. Sampling was made by the quadrat (20 × 20 cm) method, and the samples were collected from 93 sites in Turkish coastal waters between 2017 and 2019. In total, 240 taxa were found in the Turkish marine waters. Forty sites were classified into High ESC, 24 sites into Good, 12 sites into Moderate, 13 sites into Poor, and 4 sites into Bad ESC. The relationship between the pressure index MA-LUSI and EEIeqr values was also tested, and a negative correlation (R2 = 0.62) was found.Item Effect of the aquaculture on the seagrass Posidonia oceanica: a decade before and after in the Aegean Sea(2024) ERGÜN TASKIN; Furkan Bilgiç; Ersin Minareci; Orkide MinareciSeagrass Posidonia oceanica is an endemic and a keystone marine plant in the Mediterranean Sea. It has been a decline in the distribution of P. oceanica meadows by several anthropogenic pressures (i.e. pollution, marine transportation, intensive coastal use, overfishing by ground scanning methods, anchors, aquaculture activities, alien and invasive species, overgrazing, tourist activities). The aim of this study, to evaluate impact of a fish farm in a island (Kızkulesi Island, Dikili, İzmir) on the seagrass Posidonia oceanica meadow from the Aegean coasts of Türkiye. Sampling was made in 2014 September and 2023 October between 0 and 30 m depth by scuba diving. P. oceanica meadow has been completely lost in a decade in the research site.
