Item Changes in the intraocular pressure during anaesthesia with sevofluran and propofol; [Propofol ve sevofluran anestezilerinde gozici basinci degisikliklerinin karsilastirilmasi](1997) Ozturk F.; Tekin I.; Kurt E.; Luleci N.; Inan U.; Alincak H.; Tutan A.Variations in intraocular pressure during anaesthesia were studied prospectively in two groups of 20 patients selected randomly. The first group received sevoflurane and the second group received IV propofol. Intraocular pressure, heart rate, arterial pressure and oxygen saturation were measured before and after induction of anaesthesia and following vecuronium. Compared with baseline values, the decrease in intraocular pressure were similar (p>0.05) and statistically significant (p<0.05) in two groups. Haemodynamic control were better in sevoflurane group. In ophthalmic operations when intraocular pressure control were required, both anaestetic agents seem to be proper.Item A comparison of two sedation methods for elective cataract surgery; [Katarakt cerrahisinde lokal anestezi oncesinde iki farkli sedasyon yonteminin karsilastirilmasi](1998) Tekin I.; Ozturk F.; Erincler T.; Luleci N.; Alincak H.; Kurt E.; Inan U.The aim of this study was; to compare two different ways of sedation for elective cataract surgery. 30 patients (in ASA I-II-III classes and 18-65 years old), undergoing to elective cataract surgery were divided in two groups, each of them consisted from 15 patients. In group I sedation was performed with 1 mg/kg propofol IV and in the second group with a combination of 0.07 mg/kg droperidol and 1 μg/kg fentanil IV. Intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured; heart rate (HR), mean arterial blood pressure (MAP), SpO2, respiratory rate (RR) and sedation scores (SS) were noted before (T1), 5 minutes after sedation (T2), and at the end of the operation (T3). Just after the operation side effects, amnesia and general agreement of the patients were asked. Between two groups the IOP and MAP values were not significantly different before sedation (p>0.05). A significant fall of both values were noted after sedation in both groups. At the end of the operation the values were higher in the second group (p<0.05). The sedation scores were not different between two groups before the application of sedative drugs. After this application significantly deeper sedation was noted in the first group (p<0.05). In the second group the sedation scores were not significantly different before, after the application and at the end of the operation (p>0.05). In the first group, the sedation scores were higher at the end of the operation if compared with values that noted after the application of propofol. The agreement of the patients to this method were better in the first group. As a result, it can be said that; sedation with the combination of droperidol and fentanyl for elective cataract surgery in also possible, but low doses of propofol are better for this purpose.Item Is pseudoexfoliation associated with sensorineural hearing loss?(2008) Ozturk F.; Kurt E.; Inan U.U.; Derekoy S.; Ermis S.S.; Asagidag A.Objective: To determine the possible relation between pseudoexfoliation (PSX) and sensorineural hearing loss. Methods: This study was carried out in Afyon Kocatepe University, Afyon, Turkey between July 2002 and June 2005. Sixty-three patients who were found to have ocular PSX on routine biomicroscopic examination, and 38 age-matched control subjects were evaluated for evidence of audiometric abnormality. The sum of pure-tone hearing threshold measured at 250-2000 Hz, 2000-6000 Hz, and 250-6000 Hz in each ear was compared with controls for the same frequencies. Results: The mean age of the patients was 68.4±10.3 years. All patients had PSX affecting at least one eye. Fifty (79.4%) patients with PSX, and 10 (26.3%) control subjects were found to have hearing loss (p=0.00, chi-square). From the 50 patients with PSX who had hearing loss, 34 patients had bilateral PSX, and 16 patients had unilateral PSX. Twenty-nine patients had high frequency hearing loss, while 20 patients had hearing loss in all frequencies. Forty-eight patients with PSX and 7 controls had bilateral sensorineural hearing loss (p=0.030). Conclusion: Sensorineural hearing loss was seen more frequently in patients with PSX in comparison with age-matched control subjects.Item Calciphylaxis with recalcitrant ulcers in the presence of moderate renal insufficiency(2009) Bilac C.; Ozturk F.; Ermertcan A.T.; Bilac D.B.; Sahin M.T.; Temiz P.; Gumuser F.G.; Ozturkcan S.A 69-year-old woman with painful crural ulcers of 3 months duration presented at the authors outpatient clinic. Dermatological examination revealed a necrotic ulceration with eschar formation localized on the anterior left crural region and the lateral malleolus of the right ankle. According to the clinical and histopathological findings, she was diagnosed with calciphylaxis. She had moderate renal insufficiency and secondary hyperparathyroidism due to hypertension. The ulcers improved significantly after 3 months of topical wound therapy. This case of calciphylaxis with recalcitrant ulcers in the presence of moderate renal insufficiency is presented to stress the importance of early diagnosis and management in this life-threatening disorder.Item Beneficial effects of apricot-feeding on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats(2009) Parlakpinar H.; Olmez E.; Acet A.; Ozturk F.; Tasdemir S.; Ates B.; Gul M.; Otlu A.The present study was undertaken to evaluate the cardio-protective potential of apricot-feeding in the ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) model of rats in vivo. Rats were divided into three groups of 12 rats each. Group 1 was fed with a standard rat chow, groups 2 and 3 were fed with a standard rat chow supplemented with 10% or 20% dried apricot during 3 months before the beginning of I/R studies. To produce I/R, the left main coronary artery was occluded for 30 min, followed by 120 min reperfusion, in anesthetized rats. Infarct sizes were found significantly decreased in 10% (55.0 ± 4.3%) and 20% (57.0 ± 2.9%) apricot-fed groups compared to control group (68.7 ± 2.0%). Light and electron microscopic evaluations of hearts also demonstrated similar beneficial effects on I/R injury in apricot-fed both groups. Total phenolic contents, DPPH radical scavenging and ferric-reducing power as in vitro antioxidant capacities of rat chows were significantly increased after supplementation with apricot for each ratio. Cu, Zn Superoxide dismutase (Cu, Zn SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities were increased, and lipid peroxidation was decreased significantly in the hearts of 20% apricot-fed group after I/R. In conclusion, we clearly demonstrated in vivo cardio-protective activity of apricot-feeding related to its antioxidant phenolic contents in rats subjected to myocardial I/R. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances. Coexistence of sexual dysfunction, especially in women, with several systemic diseases has gained interest in recent years. In this study, we evaluated sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis. We enrolled 89 women (43 patients, 46 controls) in the study. Quality of life was assessed with the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to determine sexual function. Individuals with psychiatric disorders and/or those using antidepressants were excluded. The total DLQI score was 11.95 6 5.65 in patients with neurodermatitis. The total FSFI score was significantly lower in patients compared with healthy controls (22.76 6 5.31 and 28.83 6 3.50, respectively; P 5 .001). Domain scores of FSFI (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction) except pain were significantly lower in patients with neurodermatitis (P 5 .001). The pain score was also lower in patients than controls, but the difference was not statistically significant (P 5 .073). Neurodermatitis may be associated with sexual dysfunction, and patients with neurodermatitis should be evaluated with regard to sexual function to provide a better quality of life.Item Primary cutaneous anaplastic CD30+ large-cell lymphoma that completely regressed after incisional skin biopsy(2011) Gencoglan G.; Ozturk F.; Inanir I.; Miskioglu M.; Temiz P.; Gunduz K.We describe a 48-year-old woman with three erythematous nodules localized on the left forearm, with 2 months evolution. Histological and immunohistochemical examination revealed a CD30+ large-cell lymphoma. Systemic involvement was not detected. The tumor regressed spontaneously within a week, after the incisional skin biopsy. In control skin biopsy, there was not any histological feature of lymphoma. No reactivation or any symptom of systemic disease was observed during the 10-month follow-up period. © 2011 Informa Healthcare USA, Inc.
