    A Study on the Use of Social Networks by Turkish and German University Students in the Globalization Process

    Today's rapidly evolving technology is expanding the use of innovative communication technologies and their usage areas. to traditional communication technologies today; smartphones, laptop computers, handheld computers, and tablets are also added. Wireless communication technology removes time and space limits, allowing people to communicate both voiced and visual whenever and wherever they wish. Every day, millions of people communicate with each other through social networking networks and share their experience day by day with other network users. The social networks that people often use are also affecting interpersonal relationships. The purpose of this research is to determine the aims of Turkish and German university students to use social networks and how effective social influence is in interpersonal communication. A total of 338 students, 236 Turkish students studying at Karabuk University and 102 German students studying at Kassel University in Germany, participated in the research in the academic year of 2016-2017. A questionnaire developed by Ozdayi (2010), which will reveal the use of social networks by students as a data collection tool, was used. The questionnaire contains 11 open-ended questions and 13 items of social effect dimension of social networks developed as Likert type. Percentages, mean and t test for binary comparison were used as statistical analysis in the study. According to research findings; all students have smartphones and they use whatsapp, facebook and youtube most from social networks. By students, social media is used to look at mails, homework, study, follow current events, read news, communicate with friends, make new friends, get informed about activities, share videos and photos and have fun. Also by students travel, shopping, technology and cinema blogs are the most preferred. In the survey, in the social dimension of social networks; there was no significant difference between the groups regarding communication, self-expression, staying out of the group, becoming popular, joining groups, getting social environment, getting status in social environment and sharing. On the other hand, social networking has become an important means of communication and interaction among people today. For this reason, academicians should encourage students who are interested in new technology and communication applications to support the achievement of up-to-date information within the context of lifelong learning, and to conduct research for their own development in the teaching-learning process.

    Comparison of Teacher Candidates' Metaphorical Perceptions towards Lifelong Learning

    The aim of this study is to examine and compare metaphorical perceptions of teacher candidates. The sample of the study consists of teacher candidates studying at science and Turkish language teaching departments in the Faculty of Education, Celal Bayar University in 2014-2015 academic year. While 206 teacher candidates study at Turkish Language Teaching Department, there are 323 teacher candidates in Science Teaching Department. The study has been based on qualitative research approach. Research design has been determined as phenomenological research. In order to investigate teacher candidates' metaphorical perceptions towards lifelong learning, semi-structured interviews have been used. They have been asked to complete the statement that The Lifelong Learning is like................... Because......... .. Data obtained from perceptions of teacher candidates in the analysis has been used for content analysis. The data gathered by interview forms has been listed and the related categories have been determined. The answers of the teacher candidates have been interpreted firstly in their own groups. Then, the data of Turkish Language Teacher candidates and the data of Science Teacher candidates have been compared. The similarities and difference between their perceptions have been revealed. Results about each problem have been supported with the interpretations and literature. Conclusions and recommendations have been stated according to the findings.

    Lifelong Learning And Continuing Education Centres In Turkey

    With the rapid progress of information technologies, access to information has brought new techniques. Accordingly, concepts like Lifelong Education (LLE), Continuing Education (CE) and Lifelong Learning (LLL) have started to be shaped in universities and transformed institutional constructs involving local authorities. The aim of this study is to reveal the present situation of continuing education centres (CEC) in Turkey and their educational categories as parts of LLL. All of the higher education institutions in the title of Universities in Council of Higher Education (CoHE)'s official website form the theoretical sample of the study. In the study, The Continuing Education Centre Research Form has been developed by the researchers. The form includes the types of names CEC's have and the contents of educational categories applied. The data gathered has been analysed with content analysis method from qualitative analysis methods. As a consequence of document analyses, it has been found that 99 of 109 state universities, 64 of 74 public foundation universities, 6 of 8 higher public foundation and 7 of other 19 higher school have a CEC. In the study, it has been also attempted to determine the variety of CEC names and categorizations of their educational programs.

    Peer bullying according to the perception of teacher candidates

    Problem Statement: Peer bullying which is experienced at schools by most of the students and neglected most of the time is an important problem. One of the prevention ways of this problem is providing training for teachers and applying an effective prevention program. Purpose of Study: In this research it is aimed to reveal the peer bullying according to the perception of teacher candidates and the solution offers of teacher candidates for peer bullying. Methods: In this study peer bullying concept has been explained according to the literature. Then the teacher candidates' experiences and solution offers about peer bullying have been focused. The data about the types of peer bullying was obtained through Violence - Vulgar Power Questionnaire developed by Cinkir & Kepenekci (2003). The data was analyzed with the SPSS statistical program. The population of the research was the Celal Bayar University Education Faculty senior class students who are studying in primary school teaching, primary school science teaching, primary school social sciences teaching and Turkish Language teaching programs. The sample was selected with random selection model from the senior class students. Findings and Results: The findings were tabulated and interpreted in accordance with the literature and research. The results will be beneficial for the school environments and the literature in this concept. Conclusions and Recommendations: Recommendations about peer bullying were offered for practitioners and researchers according to the findings. (C) 2013 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
