Item Satisfaction and anxiety in an initiative with local anesthesiaZeytinoglu, M; Türkmen, S; Üstün, ÇAim: To determine the levels of satisfaction and anxiety of patients in surgery under local anesthesia. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was performed at the Ege University Faculty of Dentistry between December 2011 and January 2012. The study sample consisted of 350 patients. A sociodemographic information form and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were used in obtaining the data. Figure-percentage distributions, mean, Student's t-test, one-way ANOVA, and correlation analysis within SPSS 15.0 for Windows were used in data analysis. Results: The mean patient age was 31.58 +/- 14.58 years, consisting of 64.9% females, 36.6% high school graduates, and 72.9% who were satisfied with their therapy. Conditional anxiety score of the patients was 39.03 +/- 6.16, and constant anxiety score was 44.12 +/- 6.38. The conditional anxiety score was greater in males compared to females (P < 0.05). Conditional anxiety was greater among patients with both lower and higher levels of education (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Physicians and nurses within a health team should define factors that cause anxiety and be aware that levels of anxiety are important in terms of anxiety control.Item PERCEPTION OF PRIVACY OF NURSING HOME WORKERS WITH REGARD TO THE SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE ELDERLYÜstün, Ç; Türkmen, S; Tavsanli, NGObjective: This study aimed at revealing the opinions of nursing homes employees regarding ethical evaluation of the privacy of older people. Material and Method: The study was conducted between December 2015 and January 2016 with 45 employees working at Manisa Municipal Nursing Home and Manisa Private Foundation Nursing Home. A questionnaire consisting of 10 questions about age, gender, marital status, etc. and the Service Provider Quantitative Survey for Perception and Assessment of Privacy in Services Rendered to the Elderly were used as data collection tools. Results: The mean age of the caregivers working at the nursing homes was 38.04 +/- 10.33 (19-64) years. 48.9% of the caregivers were female and 51.1% were male. 28.9% of the caregivers were graduates of high school, 62.2% of them were married, 60.0% had less income than their expenses, 24.4% were nurses/healthcare servants, 22.2% patient caregivers and 16.0% cleaning personnel, 75.6% of them lived in provinces most of their time and 77.8% had nobody in need of care in their families. Stating that privacy should not be neglected, all groups in the study had opinions close to each other. However, this belief can also be considered as moderate. No significant correlation was found between the socio-demographic characteristics of the caregivers working at the nursing homes and the mean scores of Necessity of Privacy and Privacy Can Be Neglected sub-domains of the privacy scale or the mean Overall Privacy Scale score (p>0.05). Conclusion: Protection of the privacy of these seniors in a common location in these institutions becomes an important problem. The elderly and the staff working there should come to an agreement concerning their perception of privacy in nursing homes.Item The relationship between oxidative stress and apoptosis of histopathological changes in the ovary made by mad honey containing grayanotoxinSarsmaz, HY; Gürgen, SG; Cansu, A; Türkmen, S; Gündüz, AThe purpose of this study is to determine the effects of grayanotoxin in mad honey on ovarian tissue folliculogenesis in terms of cell death and nitric oxide expression. Three groups of 18 female Sprague-Dawley rats were formed. The first group received mad honey (80 mg/kg), the second group received normal honey (80 mg/kg), and the third group was the control. The first and second groups received normal and mad honey by oral gavage for 30 days before being sacrificed under anesthesia. Caspase 3 immunostaining showed a moderate to strong response, particularly in the mad honey group. In the mad honey group, immunostaining for caspase 8 and caspase 9 revealed a moderate immunoreaction in the granulosa cells of the Graaf follicles. The majority of Graaf follicles exhibited TUNEL positive in the mad honey group. The iNOS immunoreaction revealed a high level of expression in the mad honey group. In all three groups, eNOS immunostaining showed weak reactivity. According to the findings of apoptotic and nitric oxide marker expression, it was determined that mad honey may result in an increase in follicular atresia in ovarian follicles when compared to normal honey and control groups.
