Item Facial neuroma in the internal auditory canal(2000) Mutlu C.; Djeric D.R.; Tekin M.; Paparella M.M.; Schachern P.A.Authors presented two cases of facial neuromas in the internal auditory canal, one without facial palsy and the other with facial palsy. In both cases neuromas were occult and undiagnosed. Although in the first case neuroma was greater than the other, facial palsy was not developed. The mechanism of the facial palsy due to neuromas could not be clearly clarified. Steel and fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) plate bonding methods are very widely used in strengthening of beams. Strengthening methods such as bonding steel and FRP plates have deficiencies as corrosion, fire and buckling. In this work, it is aimed strengthening of damaged RC beams using prefabricated RC rectangular and U cross-sectional plates. The rectangular cross-sectional plates were bonded to the bottom sides of the beams by rods and epoxy. The plates having U cross-section were bonded to the three sides of the beams. The strengthened beams were incrementally loaded up to maximum load capacities. The load carrying capacity of the beams increased 41% with the strengthening rectangular cross-sectional plates, however when the U cross-sectional plates were used, the capacity increased up to 76%. The experimental results were compared with the theoretical values. In addition, post-elastic strength enhancement and displacement ductility of beams were investigated. The advantages of this method do not require shuttering, concrete and steel workmanships in situ. Also, the application of this method is very easy and economic. For these reasons, this method should be preferred against other methods. © 2011 Academic Journals.Item Strengthening of Rc beams with prefabricated RC rectangular cross-sectional plates(Association for Scientific Research, 2011) Tekin M.; Demir A.; Turali T.; Nohutçu H.; Bagci M.The topic of this study is to strengthen cracked beams with prefabricated RC rectangular cross-sectional plates. The damaged beams were repaired by epoxy based glue. The repaired beams were strengthened using prefabricated RC rectangular crosssectional plates. The strengthening plates were bonded to the bottom face of the beams by anchorage rods and epoxy. The strengthened beams were incrementally loaded up to maximum load capacities. The experimental results were satisfactory since the load carrying capacities of damaged beams were increased approximately 47% due to strengthening. The post-elastic strength enhancement and the displacement ductility of all the beams are researched during the experiments. The experimental program was supported by a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis. The experimental results were compared with the results obtained from the beam modeled with ANSYS finite element program. © Association for Scientific Research.Item Comparison of nonlinear static and dynamic analyses on a R/C building(Association for Scientific Research, 2013) Tekin M.; Gürbüz A.; Demir A.In recent years, nonlinear calculation methods can be easily carried out by means of developing computer technologies. In this way, comparisons of the nonlinear methods have started to increase rapidly and more studies are carried out on regular and irregular buildings. However, it is most important to compare consistency of the methods on buildings. In this study, most common nonlinear static (pushover) and nonlinear dynamic analysis (time history analysis) methods were compared on an asymmetric planned reinforced concrete (R/C) building. Building having horizontal and vertical irregularities was 5-story. Analyses were carried out by using SAP2000 program. The results are discussed in terms of base shear, lateral displacements and top displacement ratios.Item Strengthening of RC beams with prefabricated RC U cross-sectional plates(Techno-Press, 2014) Demir A.; Tekin M.; Turali T.; Bagci M.The topic of this study is to strengthen cracked beams with prefabricated RC U cross-sectional plates. The damaged beams were repaired by epoxy based glue. The repaired beams were strengthened using prefabricated plates. The strengthening plates were bonded to the bottom and side faces of the beams by anchorage rods and epoxy. The strengthened beams were incrementally loaded up to maximum load capacities. The experimental results were satisfactory since the load carrying capacities of damaged beams were increased approximately 76% due to strengthening. It was observed that strengthening plates had a dominant effect on the performance of beams in terms of both the post-elastic strength enhancement and the ductility. The experimental program was supported by a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis. The experimental results were compared with the results obtained from the beam modeled with ANSYS finite element program. Objective: To determine the reference ranges of kidney dimensions in newborns and to provide a reference chart for daily practice. Materials and methods: In this prospective study, kidney dimensions were evaluated in 385 healthy newborns with a gestational age ≥37 weeks. Each neonate seen at an obstetrics clinic and neonatal intensive care unit was examined with sonography within the first week of life. Relationships of all dimensions with gender, gestational age, height and weight were statistically analyzed. Results: All dimensions of the kidneys were smaller in girls than in boys (P < 0.05). The dimensions of the left kidney were larger than those in the right kidney in both genders (P < 0.01). Longitudinal and anteroposterior dimensions of the right and left kidneys showed no correlation with the gestational age in either gender. The dimensions correlated with the height in boys (P < 0.01), while no correlation was seen between the dimensions and height in girls (P < 0.05). Weight had the best correlation with all dimensions in both genders. Conclusion: The reference values of kidney lengths and diagrams from this study may be useful in the sonographic evaluation of kidneys in newborns. © 2014, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.Item Reference ranges of liver and spleen dimensions in term infants: sonographic measurements(Springer Japan, 2015) Kahramaner Z.; Erdemir A.; Arik B.; Bilgili G.; Tekin M.; Genc Y.Methods: In this prospective study, spleen and liver dimensions were evaluated in 384 healthy newborns with a gestation age ≥37 weeks in an obstetrics clinic and neonatal intensive care unit with sonography within the first week of life. Relationships of all dimensions with sex, gestational age, height, and weight were statistically analyzed.; Results: No statistically significant differences were found between the two sexes in any dimensions of the liver and spleen (p > 0.05). Longitudinal and anteroposterior dimensions of the liver and spleen showed no correlation with the gestational age. All dimensions of the liver and spleen showed a high correlation with the height and weight. Weight was the best correlated with all dimensions.; Conclusion: The reference values of spleen and liver lengths and diagrams from this study may be useful in the sonographic evaluation of the spleen and liver in newborns.; Purpose: To determine reference values of ultrasonographic measurements of the liver and spleen in newborns and to provide a reference chart to use easily in daily practice. © 2014, The Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine.Item RC beam strengthening using precast RC plate bonding technique; [Ojačanje ab greda tehnikom povezivanja s predgotovljenom ab pločom](Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians, 2015) Demir A.; Bagci M.; Tekin M.; Nuhoglu A.The behaviour of RC beams strengthened with precast RC plates of rectangular and U cross-section is studied in the paper. An experimental investigation was conducted to assess effectiveness of strengthening with precast plates. The investigation was supported with the 2-D nonlinear finite element analysis (NLFEA). The NLFEA results showed agood level of correlation with test results. The proposed technique is considered to be a good alternative to RC jacketing and the technique is practical, economical and reliable for buildings or bridges with a greater number sisof similar beams.Item Autozygosity in a Turkish family with scoliosis, blindness, and arachnodactyly syndrome(King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, 2015) Orenay-Boyacioglu S.; Tekin M.; Dundar M.Background and Objectives: Blindness-scoliosis-arachnodactyly syndrome has been described in a family with parental consanguinity. We present the strategy employed to determine the gene locus responsible for the syndrome. Design and Setting: A retrospective study of blindness-scoliosis-arachnodactyly syndrome patients at the Department of Medical Genetics, Erciyes University, between 2009-2010. Patients and Methods: Whole genome single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were scanned using a 250K Affymetrix array. We visually evaluated runs of homozygosity shared by two affected brothers that segregated in the entire pedigree with different combinations due to the unclear affected status of some siblings. Two and multiple-point LOD (logarithm [base 10] of odds) score analyses were performed by easyLINKAGEplus v5.08. Results: Five homozygous blocks over 2 Mb shared by two affected brothers segregated with phenotype in two affected and three unaffected siblings and in the mother whose phenotypes were unequivocal. The longest homozygous block in this analysis was on chromosome 14 between 67817621bp (rs7148416) and 82508151bp (rs17117757). When another sister with positive eye findings was added to the analysis, this region was narrowed to between 67817621bp (rs7148416) and 75657598bp (rs11626830), with a maximum LOD score of 2.3956 by two-point analysis. Three candidate genes were detected in this region. Conclusion: This study contributes to the existing literature on the region 67817621 bp 82508151 bp (rs17117757) on chromosome 14 and the three candidate genes, which could be responsible for the syndrome. © 2015 Annals of Saudi Medicine.
