Item Evaluation of child psychiatry consultations of stayed patients at pediatric clinic; [Pediatri Kliniǧinde Yatarak Tedavi Gören Hastalarda, Çocuk Psikiyatrisi Konsültasyonlarinin Deǧerlendirilmesi](ANP Publishing, 2017) Özkan O.G.; Sapmaz S.Y.; Kandemir H.Object: This study was conducted to evaluate child psychiatry consultations of patients which were stayed in different clinics in a university hospital. Methods: The records of the patients who were consulted in between 01.07.2016 and 31.12.2016 and was made diagnosis according to DSM5 was scanned restrospectively. The sociodemographic information of the patients, the diagnosis of physical illness, the clinic requested for consultation, the reason for the consultation, the psychiatric diagnoses determined in the consultation result and the psychiatric treatment process were analyzed by using the SPSS 15.0 program. Results: Psychiatric consultation was requested for 55 inpatient children within a sixmonth period. %63,6 of consulted cases was a girl, %36,4 of them was a boy and the average age was found as 13,2 ± 3,6. When the consultations were evaluated, it was determined that the 23,6% of the patients were consulted for suicide attempt and 83,6% of them had at least one mental disorder. The most common diagnosis was major depression in the rate of 36,4% and psychotropic treatment was recommended to 38,2% of evaluated cases because of the psychiatric disorder. Discussion: In our study, it was found that the consultation rates were low despite the rate of psychopathology (83,4%) was rather high in consulated children and adolescents. This suggests that the doctors who are working in non-psychiatric areas are having difficulty understanding and evaluating the psychiatric symptoms in children and that the cooperation among physicians should be increased so that psychiatric illnesses can be better recognized. © 2017 ANP Publishing. A 16-year-old male patient reported that he had used paliperidone for 3 years and had gained weight during this period. Various laboratory tests were performed when the patient started treatment in our clinic. It is evident from the test result that 3-year use of paliperidone dramatically increased fasting blood sugar, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides and prolactin levels in the patient. The metabolic parameters of the patient decreased into the normal range once the medication was stopped. Thus, paliperidone should be used carefully based on the side effects for patients under 18 years of age. © 2017 ANP Publishing. Method: In this study,50 in- or out-patients who met the criteria for any anxiety disorder according to DSM-5 were included. One hundred volunteers without any mental or physical disease were also recruited as the control group. Beside the study scale, State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was used for concurrent validity.Internal consistency coefficient and item-total correlation analysis were performed for reliability analysis. Exploratory factor analysis was used for validity and correlation analysis with Spearman Correlation Analysis was used for concurrent validity. Results: Mean age was 28.9±12.6 years in the study group and 57.3% of the sample (n=86) were female. Disease duration for anxiety disorder was 17.4±9.5 years in the patient group. The internal consistency of the scale was 0.91. Item-total correlation coefficients were between 0.64-0.83 (p<0.0001). For the exploratory factor analysis one-factor solution was obtained with an eigenvalue of 6.89 representing 68.93% of the total variance. Factor loadings of the items were between 0.48-0.76. Coefficient of correlation analysis with STAI was calculated as r = 0.43 (p <0.0001). Discussion: With these findings, it has been shown that Turkish version of DSM-5 severity scale for generalized anxiety disorder is reliable and valid. © 2019 ANP Publishing. Method: Fourty children and their mothers were included into the study. The children were chosen among those who were aged between 0-72 months and had no developmental delay which was found out as a result of developmental test. As the control group, another 40 children and their mothers were included into the study. Child Adjustment and Parent Efficacy Scale (CAPES-TR) and Parent Attitude Research Instrument (PARI) were handed out to mothers in both groups. Finally, Experiences in Close Relationship Revised (ECC-R) was applied to mothers of both groups. SPSS20 was used for statistical analysis. Results: According to CAPES-TR results, emotional, behavioural and social problems in the group that were admitted to psychiatry clinic were higher than control group (p<0.05). According to same scale, mothers' self-confidence was found significantly lower (p<0.05). According to PARI results, the score of the group that applied to clinic for over-motherhood reasons was found higher (p<0.05). Likewise, authoritative attitude score was found higher in patient group (p<0.05). Discussion: The results of this study share similarities with other studies which found out that parental child-rearing attitude presents a risk factor for behavioural problems among children. © 2020 ANP Publishing. Method: 203 healthy participants who are matched with the 208 MDD participants group between 18-60 years old and in at least eight weeks remission period and treatment in progress, without an additional diagnosis were included in the study. Socio-demographic data form, Nine Types of Temperament Scale (NTTS) and Temperament Character Inventory (TCI) were applied to all participants, and in addition, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) were applied to the subjects with MDD. MDD specifiers were evaluated using follow-up data files. Results: According to results, both Nine Type Temperament (NTT) Model’s types, which are NTT1, NTT2, NTT3, NTT4, NTT6 and NTT8, and Psychobiological Personality Model’s dimensions which are consisted of the cooperation, persistence, harm avoidance and self-management were found to be associated with MDD. From the point of MDD determinants; anxiety-distressing characteristics are associated with NTM2, NTM3, NTM6, NTM9; melancholy characteristics is concerned with NTT1, NTT5 and NTT6; seasonal characteristics are related to NTT4; mixed features are relevant with NTT4 and NTT7; and atypical features are associated with NTT5, NTT7, NTT9. As a result, MDD determinants are found to be associated with temperament types which are coming from NTTM. Discussion: It is seen that temperament, which constitutes the structural basis of personality, is an effective parameter both in the diagnosis and in the individual-specific recognition of symptomatology in MDD patients. In addition, it can be said that temperament can be a discriminating factor in defining MDD specifiers. The development of temperament-oriented diagnosis and treatment strategies in future studies may be beneficial for the practice. © 2020 ANP Publishing. Method: The sample of our study consisted of the parents of children between the ages of 2-12. The clinical sample is from 201 mothers or fathers who were in the first 1-month evaluation process at the Dokuz Eylul University Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic; the population sample consisted of 202 mothers or fathers living in Balçova. For test-retest measurement, the test was re-administered to 58 parents in the community sample two weeks later. Psychometric properties of the scale were compared to Parenting Styles and Dimensions Scale, Marriage Life Scale and General Health Questionnaire. Results: Internal consistency of Parenting subscale were found ''quite reliable'' and Family Adjustment subscale were found ''highly reliable''. There was no significant difference in the test-retest application of the PAFAS Turkish Form subscale and factor structures. PAFAS Turkish Form has high power to differentiate community and clinical samples; has a five-factor structure validity. It was determined that it has concurrent criterion validity with Parenting Styles and Dimensions Scale, Marriage Life Scale and General Health Questionnaire. Discussion: In this study, it has been found that the Turkish version of PAFAS is a good valid and reliable scale for screening multiple domains of family functioning. © 2020 ANP Publishing. However, the relationship between interpersonal emotion regulation and personality traits has not been investigated yet. The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between interpersonal emotion regulation, personality traits, and psychopathology symptoms. Method: Three hundred ninety-one undergraduate women students recruited this study. Five Factor Personality Inventory-Short Form, Interpersonal Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and Brief Symptoms Inventory were used as measurement tools. Results: People with high scores of extraversion, agreeableness, openness to experience and conscientiousness use others more to enhance positive emotions and to regulate their negative emotions. People with high neuroticism use others more for social modelling and to be soothed. The correlation results showed that personality traits, interpersonal emotion regulation strategies, and psychological symptoms were associated with each other. Also, multiple mediation analysis revealed that only soothing as an interpersonal emotion regulation strategy had a mediating role in the relationship between extraversion personality trait and general psychopathology symptoms. Discussion: Results showed that personality traits might affect using of interpersonal emotion regulation strategies. Some people seek out and use other people more to regulate their own emotions, which is associated with psychopathology symptoms. Extraverts easily reach others to be soothed when they feel negative emotions, and this might be protective from psychopathology. © 2021 ANP Publishing. Method: This retrospective study was carried out on 93 major depressive disorder (MDD) patients and 65 healthy control. Clinical features such as diagnosis date, diagnosis during admission to hospital using DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, comorbid physical and psychiatric illness, drug use, previous psychiatric diagnosis, history of suicide attempt were determined. In addition, hemogram parameters of the participant included in the study in the hospital data system were used. Results: NLR and platelet distribution width (PDW) were found to be statistically significantly higher in the patient group than in the control group (p<0.05). A weakly significant positive correlation (p=0.039, r=0.165) was found between NLR and depression severity scale; a positive correlation was found between PDW and depression scale scores and depression severity scale total scores (p<0.001, r=0.317; p<0.001, r=0.320, respectively). Discussion: NLR and PDW were found to be significantly higher in patients with MDD than in healthy controls, and it supports the possible role of low-grade inflammation in the pathophysiology of MDD. In the next years, prospective studies in which hemogram parameters are evaluated together with proinflammatory cytokines will more clearly illuminate the role of inflammation and platelet activation in the etiology of MDD in adolescents. © 2022 Authors.
