Item Validity and reliability of Turkish version of rhinitis and mini-rhinitis quality of life questionnaires(ELSEVIER DOYMA SL) Yuksel, H; Yilmaz, O; Alkan, S; Degirmenci, PB; Kirmaz, CBackground: The aim of the present study was to develop the Turkish version of Rhinitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (RQLQ) and mini-RQLQ for clinical and research purposes. Methods: Study included 55 patients with Allergic Rhinitis (AR), aged 18-69. Demographic characteristics and symptom score (T4SS) were recorded. All patients filled in the Turkish RQLQ and mini-RQLQ. Reliability analysis included internal consistency and item-total score correlations. Construct validity analysis was performed by Known Group method by correlation of RQLQ and mini-RQLQ scores with T4SS and SF36. Results: Mean age of patients was 36.4 +/- 10.6. Mean T4SS was 4.7 +/- 4.1. Cronbach's alpha. scores of all RQLQ domains were above 0.90 and those of mini-RQLQ were above 0.80. All items were significantly correlated with their domains. All correlation coefficients for item versus domain score were above 0.75 for RQLQ and above 0.84 for mini-RQLQ. Total RQLQ score was correlated with SF36 domains except physical functioning domain. Total mini-RQLQ score was significantly correlated with all SF36 domains (all r>-0.46). T4SS revealed significant correlation with RQLQ practical score (r=0.38). On the other hand, T4SS was correlated significantly with practical, nose and total scores of mini-RQLQ (r=0.33, 0.48, 0.34 respectively). Conclusions: Health is the complete state of well-being and AR has major impact on quality of life (QoL), therefore it seems essential to include QoL measures in clinical evaluation along with traditional parameters. This study has demonstrated that RQLQ and mini-RQLQ are valid measures for use in Turkish patients with AR. (C) 2009 SEICAP. Published by Elsevier Espana, S.L. Most of these educational events have been reported to improve care by the physicians. The aim of this study was to determine the baseline knowledge of general practitioners (GP) regarding the systemic nature of childhood allergy and atopic march, and to assess the influence of an educational event on this baseline knowledge. Methods: Two hundred and two GPs from five different cities in Turkey who attended education seminars were enrolled. All GPs were received the questionnaire both before and after the seminar. The questionnaire had statements about the systemic nature of childhood allergies and the atopic march, and GPs were asked to mark their degree of agreement as (completely true, partially true, wrong). Results: Mean age of GPs was 38.6 +/- 6.0 years. Mean duration after graduation from medical faculty was 13.9 +/- 6.5 years. There was significant improvement in answers after education. The statement Frequency of allergic rhinitis and asthma is not as high as expected in children with atopic dermatitis was regarded wrong by 60.9% but increased to 94.3% after the education (p < 0.001). Systemic nature of allergy was approved by 72.8%, which increased to 99% after the education (p < 0.001). Adrenalin as first line treatment in anaphylaxis treatment was appreciated by a higher number of GPs with the education (p<0.001). Conclusion: Many GPs lack updated information about the systemic nature of paediatric allergic diseases and a single educational event may improve their knowledge significantly. Material and method: 43 patients with labia minora hypertrophy and 30 age-matched healthy controls were enrolled in the present study. The sexual functions of the women were evaluated by using the index of female sexual function (IFSF). Results: Mean ages of the patients and controls were 30.06 +/- 7.11 and 31.34 +/- 4.12 (p = 0.41), respectively. Mean total IFSF scores of the patients and controls were 24.18 +/- 3.24 and 27.53 +/- 4.43 (p < 0.05), respectively. The subscale scores of IFSF-lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction and pain in the patient group were significantly lower than in the control group (respectively, p < 0.001, p < 0.05, p < 0.001 and p < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between IFSF-arousal scores of the patient and control groups (p = 0.30). The mean IFSF-desire scores of the patient group was higher than the controls (p < 0.001). Labia minora hypertrophy was significantly associated with female sexual dysfunction (odds ratio [OR] = 14.97, 95% confidence interval [Cl] = [3.66-61.21], p < 0.001). Conclusion: This study suggests that patients with labia minora hypertrophy have poorer lubrication, satisfaction, pain, and orgasm scores on the IFSF scale compared to age-matched healthy controls. Methods: Thirty children aged 8-13 years diagnosed with asthma were enrolled in the study as well as 13 healthy children. One group received only pharmacological treatment and the other group was also enrolled in an exercise programme. Venous blood and 24-hour urine samples were obtained from the children enrolled in the study at the beginning and end of the study. Leukotriene E4 and creatinine levels were measured in the urine and matrix metallopeptidase (MMP-9), endothelin-1 (ET-1), malnodialdehyde (MDA), IgE and specific IgE levels were measured in blood samples. Results: Leukotriene E4, MDA and MMP9 levels decreased significantly with treatment in both groups (p<0.001). However, ET-1 levels decreased significant only in the exercise group (26.5 +/- 3.6 vs 21.3 +/- 2.4 pg/ml respectively, p=0.001). Moreover, ET-1 levels were found to be significantly lower in the exercise group compared to the only pharmacotherapy group (24.2 +/- 3.1 vs 21.3 +/- 2.4 pg/ml, p=0.007). Conclusions: Positive influences of exercise training in children with asthma may be mediated by decrease in ET-1 levels. (C) 2010 SEICAP. Published by Elsevier Espana, S.L. All rights reserved.
