Consequently, different aspects of the peer coaching process have been examined. However, no international comparative studies focusing on the differences between the applicability and adoptability of peer coaching in different educational systems were found. This paper seeks to address these issues. Design/methodology/approachThis quantitative study examined cross-national differences in educators’ beliefs about peer coaching by comparing survey responses of American and Turkish educators. FindingsData analysis showed that both American and Turkish educators found peer coaching adoptable at a high level in their school systems. However, on the applicability level there were statistically significant differences found at all subscales of peer coaching survey showing that American participants believed that peer coaching was much more applicable than did the Turkish participants. Research limitations/implicationsWhile limited by the small sample size not representative of the overall populations in the USA and Turkey, this study contributes to the international discourse on the different types of teacher professional development by examining cross-national differences in educators’ beliefs about peer coaching. Practical implicationsThe results of this study inform practitioners and researchers about the ways peer coaching is perceived by educators in different countries. Given the findings, school districts can examine more contextually and culturally appropriate ways inherent in the post-observation conference to increase the effectiveness of the peer coaching process. Originality/valueThe findings of this study enrich the body of research on peer coaching, particularly focusing on the teachers’ and leaders’ beliefs and perceptions about the adoption and applicability of peer coaching as a form of teacher professional development and calls for further empirical research on teacher peer coaching in the national and international contexts. © 2013, © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.Item A fuzzy analytic hierarchy process methodology for the supplier selection problem(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2014) Özfirat P.M.; Taşoglu G.T.; Memiş G.T.Purpose: Purchasing activities of a company form a very important part in the operation of the company. The quality of production and services mainly rely on the performance of the suppliers. In addition, a large amount of the product's total cost belongs to the purchasing cost of its materials. Therefore, selecting the most suitable suppliers is very important for the firm. Unfortunately, most of the time, suppliers cannot provide the highest quality parts on-time at the lowest costs in the market. In other words, quality, delivery and cost objectives conflict with each other. The purpose of this paper is to determine the best supplier for the firm according to these conflicting objectives. Design/methodology/approach: In this study a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) approach is employed for the supplier selection problem of a textile company. First the selection criteria according to company's objectives are determined. Then the pair-wise comparisons are made on a fuzzy basis. Similarly, in the next step, the six alternative suppliers are compared by fuzzy means. Findings: Finally, the two suppliers which achieved the highest performance are advised to the company and this study is the first one which employs FAHP using fuzzy prioritization method in supplier selection problem. Originality/value: There are many different applications of FAHP in literature and some of these have found applications in supplier selection problem. However, to the best of the authors' knowledge this study is the first one which employs FAHP using fuzzy prioritization method in supplier selection problem. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.Item Hybrid supervised clustering based ensemble scheme for text classification(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2017) Onan A.Purpose: The immense quantity of available unstructured text documents serve as one of the largest source of information. Text classification can be an essential task for many purposes in information retrieval, such as document organization, text filtering and sentiment analysis. Ensemble learning has been extensively studied to construct efficient text classification schemes with higher predictive performance and generalization ability. The purpose of this paper is to provide diversity among the classification algorithms of ensemble, which is a key issue in the ensemble design. Design/methodology/approach: An ensemble scheme based on hybrid supervised clustering is presented for text classification. In the presented scheme, supervised hybrid clustering, which is based on cuckoo search algorithm and k-means, is introduced to partition the data samples of each class into clusters so that training subsets with higher diversities can be provided. Each classifier is trained on the diversified training subsets and the predictions of individual classifiers are combined by the majority voting rule. The predictive performance of the proposed classifier ensemble is compared to conventional classification algorithms (such as Naïve Bayes, logistic regression, support vector machines and C4.5 algorithm) and ensemble learning methods (such as AdaBoost, bagging and random subspace) using 11 text benchmarks. Findings: The experimental results indicate that the presented classifier ensemble outperforms the conventional classification algorithms and ensemble learning methods for text classification. This chapter examines the Industry 4.0 revolution and its effect on accounting. Incorrect information from one of the business departments affects the entire system. Especially in the accounting department, which records the financial movements of the business and reports the results of them, and which is effective in making decisions that affect the whole business based on these results, the use of smart systems helps to reduce human-made mistakes and the system to act faster while also the systems used in traditional accounting are abandoned. However, brain power is still required, which must analyze the results. While the revolution is still developing, there are a lot of theories about the future. The expected outcome of these is that with the revolution, the need for brain power to analyze system outputs will increase, even if the need for human labour in the industry decreases. The trend of industry 4.0 is also said to be an another contributing factor into the VUCA environment. The VUCA creates a lot of challenges for organization from the perspective of management and leadership. Both business and leadership agility are needed more than VUCA as the VUCA world is becoming old. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to review the literature and to summarize the understanding with regard to managing VUCA-RR world in an era of Industry 4.0. Since the advent of term VUCA, many researchers have provided theoretical model and framework to guide managers regarding to their action and strategies. This bought a sense of urgency to adopt this change for the sustainability of both individual and corporate existence. The name given to the future world on the brink of this change and transformation is VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity). COVID-19 pandemic exposed leadership teams to novel challenges that required many changes to their practices. This has been the most volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) times in healthcare. VUCA software technologies that connect different geographies of the world over the Internet have provided institutions with standardization, harmonization, and acceleration. Because Generation Z was born during a period of rapid technical growth and digital transition, it is also known as the 'Digital Generation'. Digitalization is one of the developments that best symbolizes the twenty-first century, and it has both benefits and drawbacks. Because of its strong link with digitization, Generation Z is seen as the generation that experiences these benefits and drawbacks the most intensely. For this reason, the disadvantages as well as the advantages it provides to Generation Z come into question as an important issue. Generation Z benefits from digitalization in many ways, including faster and easier access to information, the elimination of time and space constraints in many issues, easier access to various needs such as shopping, education, entertainment and communication, faster completion of work that needs to be done, the ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time and the establishment of a universal perspective. Disadvantages include distraction, screen addiction beginning in childhood, diminished capacity to conduct business using traditional ways, cyber dangers and decreases in personal information security, and future risk to individual security from sharing on social media platforms. All rights reserved.Item Subjective norms and behavioural intention of E-banking adoption: Mediating role of perceived usefulness(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2023) Jermsittiparsert K.; Wongsuwan N.; Akkaya B.The study was planned to examine the impact of subjective norms on the behavioural intentions of Thai e-banking users. Additionally, the study has also examined the mediating role of perceived usefulness of e-banking in the relationship between the subjective norms and e-banking adoption. The subjective norms construct in this study was decomposed into societal descriptive and injunctive norms, and personal descriptive and injunctive norms. It is clear from the literature review that highly inconsistent findings were reported between perceived usefulness and subjective norms because of the contradiction in the findings obtained by the researchers. This occurred may be because trivial attention was given to the relationship between subjective norm and perceived usefulness. In current research, it is argued that there are many advantages of e-banking adoption which includes mobility, convenience and 24-hour accessibility anywhere anytime with no physical limitation of location as required in old-styled e-commerce. For that reason, it is hypothesized that people who believe that these advantages would result in the improvement in their performance are expected to create a positive environment for technology adoption. In the latest quantitative research development, the partial least squares (PLS) path modelling is considered to be unsuitable in determining the validity of the model. For this purpose, a two-step process is implemented in current research. The usage of m-commerce has faced reluctance by the subscribers of mobile phone, which is in general the most anticipated challenge among both the developing and developed countries. Similarly, there are restricted empirical research work regarding to the m-commerce in Thailand. As a result, in the situation of developing countries (for instance, Thailand specially), very less numbers of research exist for the recognition of important variables for the m-commerce installation or estimating the m-commerce adoption variables. For explaining the behavioural targets of subscribers and for estimation generally the model that has been used is referred to as technology acceptance model (TAM). First, the factor subjective norms by the region of technology acceptance had contradictory outcomes and inconsistency to the behavioural target. In this study, we employed the Smart Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling version 3.2.6 as a data analysis technique. The response rate of the current study is 81%. The results have certainty that has established the presence of these associations between the users which implicated the significance of subjective norms in Thailand which were recognized. The rapid development of technology makes the life of societies and people easier. For this reason, governments tend to develop their technologies and to encourage organizations in this field for this purpose. The concept of Industry 5.0 or Society 5.0 explains the revolution in people's lives with the development of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Today, many interrelated factors are rapidly preparing people for a complex and volatile future. This situation is accepted as the "new normal" and is defined as VUCA-RR (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity, Rapidity, Radicality). Variability refers to the increasing pace of change, uncertainty, unpredictability in life. Complexity indicates difficulties in relationships in life, and ambiguity indicates difficulties in understanding the events around us.
