Item Corrosion effects on structural behaviour of jacket type offshore structures(Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians, 2014) Gucuyen E.; Erdem R.T.The application of weight losses to investigate corrosion effects on structural behaviour of an offshore structure under wave loads is presented in this study. Weight losses of sections obtained during previous experimental studies are implemented in the model. The jacket type structural model is analysed in its intact and deteriorated forms to demonstrate corrosion effects. The ABAQUS finite elements program is utilized and the fluid structure interaction (FSI) technique is adopted when modelling the interaction between solid and fluid domains. Mode shapes, first three natural frequencies, displacements of selected points, and maximum stresses, are comparatively presented.Item Corrosion effects on structural behaviour of jacket type offshore structures; [Utjecaj korozije na izvanobalne konstrukcije](Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians, 2014) Gucuyen E.; Erdem R.T.The application of weight losses to investigate corrosion effects on structural behaviour of an offshore structure under wave loads is presented in this study Weight losses of sections obtained during previous experimental studies are implemented in the model. The resistance of one-storey single-span masonry buildings subjected to seismic load on the shaking table is investigated in the study. Experimental results revealed natural periods, response acceleration spectrums, and spectrum interactions of masonry buildings. In addition, finite element models of test buildings were established, and their results were compared with those obtained during experimental study.Item RC beam strengthening using precast RC plate bonding technique; [Ojačanje ab greda tehnikom povezivanja s predgotovljenom ab pločom](Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians, 2015) Demir A.; Bagci M.; Tekin M.; Nuhoglu A.The behaviour of RC beams strengthened with precast RC plates of rectangular and U cross-section is studied in the paper. An experimental investigation was conducted to assess effectiveness of strengthening with precast plates. The investigation was supported with the 2-D nonlinear finite element analysis (NLFEA). The NLFEA results showed agood level of correlation with test results. The proposed technique is considered to be a good alternative to RC jacketing and the technique is practical, economical and reliable for buildings or bridges with a greater number sisof similar beams.Item Analysis of submarine outfalls subjected to wave load; [Analiza valnog opterecenja podmorskih ispusta](Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians, 2015) Gücüyen E.Significant improvements haue been made in recent years in the field of submarine outfall construction technology. Such an advancement resulted in structural improvements of submarine outfalls, especially with regard to diffuser pipes, risers, and ports. The paper focuses on the modelling of one part of submarine outfall, namely the diffuser pipes made of various materials, and on the effects of their surroundings (internal and external flows). The fluid structure interaction technique is applied in the analyses. The analyses conducted in the paper show that the highest stress values are obtained in the pipe-riser connections. Highest displacements are observed when wave load is axially applied on the structure.Item Analysis of guyed steel lattice mast subjected to environmental loads; [Analiza čeličnog rešetkastog jarbola izloženog djelovanju vjetra i leda](Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians, 2015) Erdem R.T.Steel lattice masts rank among the most efficient load-bearing structures in the field of high-rise construction. The non-linear analysis of a guyed steel lattice mast is conducted using the SAP 2000 finite-element program for different ice thickness values at 1500 m of altitude. After definition of the geometrical model and cross-section properties, various load combinations are analysed. Finally, the wind speed - ice thickness relationship is obtained, and the maximum wind speed that the structure can withstand is determined for varying ice thicknesses. © 2015, Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians. Two building models measuring 150 × 150 × 135 cm were manufactured for the testing. Dynamic properties of both buildings were experimentally determined using the operational modal analysis. The ABAQUS finite element software was used to numerically determine dynamic properties of the buildings. The effect of stirrup densification in columns on dynamic properties of the building was defined by comparing experimental and numerical analysis results.Item Performance evaluation of reinforced concrete buildings with softer ground floors; [Ocjena ponašanja armiranobetonskih zgrada s mekim prizemljem](Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians, 2016) Erdem R.T.Determination of seismic performance is a significant task in the performancebased seismic analysis of structures. The consistency between analysis results obtained according to various codes is highly significant for seismic evaluation of structures. Non-linear performance of three reinforced concrete buildings having a soft storey irregularity is studied based on the finite elements analysis according to FEMA-356, FEMA-440, and Turkish Earthquake Code - 2007. Damage situations, modal properties, storey drift ratios, and global performance levels are comparatively presented for each structure, and appropriate suggestions are given.Item Non-linear analysis of reinforced concrete slabs under impact effect(Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians, 2017) Erdem R.T.; Gucuyen E.Most of the existing structures are designed to resist static loads only. Various researchers indicate that sudden loads affecting structural members should also be considered in the design phase. Surfaces of many structures are covered with concrete slab members that are under the effect of sudden loads such as accidental drops, rock falls, or military attacks. A non-linear analysis of RC slabs is performed in this study using the Abaqus software. Impact parameters such as accelerations, velocities, displacements, impact forces, and energy capacities, are determined for each slab.Item Experimental study on hollow section joints under impact loading(Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians, 2020) Erdem R.T.; Kantar E.; Gucuyen E.; Alycyoolu B.Steel sections with four different joint types, subjected to sudden impact, are investigated in this study. A drop weight test setup was developed for this purpose. Impact tests were performed for two different energy levels. Acceleration-time, displacement-time, impact load-time, and impact load-displacement graphs were developed and presented. It was established that the behaviour of test specimens is affected by joint types and impact energy applied. Failure damage situation occurs earlier when rigidity of specimens decreases and when higher level of impact energy is applied. © 2020 Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians. The analysis of a tripod-type offshore structure sixty m in total height is performed in this study. In addition to operation-related loads, the structure is also under the effect of wind and wave loads. While the Eurocode velocity profile is used to calculate wind forces, the Airy wave velocity profile is utilized to determine wave forces. The model is created by a finite elements analysis program, and is composed of fluid and structural parts. The interaction of the parts is ensured by Coupled Eulerian Lagrangian (CEL) technique. © 2020 Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians. A drop weight test setup with necessary test equipment is used for this purpose. The mass and drop height of the hammer is taken to be constant so that the same impact energy can be applied on test specimens. The acceleration, displacement, impact load, drop numbers and drop durations, are obtained through experimental study. In addition, development of damage to test specimens is observed during tests. Numerical analyses of behaviour of test specimens under impact load are also conducted to verify test results using the Abaqus software, and a comparison of results is made. © 2021 Union of Croatian Civil Engineers and Technicians.
