Item New records of three dictyotalean brown algae for Turkey(2013) Taşkin E.In the present paper, three dictyotalean brown algae (Dictyopteris lucida, Dictyota cyanoloma, and Padina pavonicoides) are reported for the first time from Turkey. D. cyanoloma and P. pavonicoides are also reported for the first time from the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The species were collected in the sublittoral zone near İzmir (Aegean coast of Turkey). The data concerning the habitat and morphology of these species are presented.Item Distribution and abundance of modern dinoflagellate cysts from Marmara, Aegean and Eastern Seas of Turkey(Triveni Enterprises, 2014) Aydin H.; Uzar S.Twenty-one surface sediment samples were collected from coastal areas of Turkey to determine horizontal distribution and abundance of the cysts. A total of 40 dinoflagellate cyst types were identified and recorded in the range of 34 and 31532 cyst g-1 d.wt. in the sediments. The concentration of Lingulodinium machaerophorum, Polykrikos kofoidii, Quinquecuspis concreta, Dubridinium caperatum and Spiniferites bulloideus cysts dominated over other species. Although cysts of potentially toxic species of Alexandrium affine type and A. catenella/tamarense complex were found only in Izmir Bay. A. minutum type, Lingulodinium machaerophorum and Operculodinium centrocarpum were observed in the surface sediments of Marmara Sea and Fethiye Bay. The present study provides a database on the distribution and composition of dinoflagellate cysts in the Eastern Mediterranean sea coastal waters of Turkey where modern dinoflagellate cysts have been little studied. © Triveni Enterprises, Lucknow (India).Item Marine benthic Cyanobacteria in Northern Cyprus (Eastern Mediterranean Sea)(Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Medical Sciences, 2015) Ulcay S.; Taşkin E.; Kurt O.; Öztürk M.In this paper, 47 taxa (15 Chroococcales, 20 Oscillatoriales, and 12 Nostocales) of Cyanobacteria that were collected along the coasts of Northern Cyprus (Eastern Mediterranean Sea) are reported. Aphanocapsa litoralis (Hansgirg) Komarek & Anagnostidis, Coelosphaerium minutissimum Lemmermann, Chroococcus cf. turicensis (Nageli) Hansgirg, Chroococcus varius A.Braun, Spirulina tenerrima Kutzing ex Gomont, Calothrix fuscoviolacea P.L.Crouan & H.M.Crouan ex Bornet & Flahault, Rivularia nitida C.Agardh ex Bornet & Flahault, and Scytonematopsis pilosa (Harvey ex Bornet & Flahault) I.Umezaki & M.Watanabe are recorded for the first time from the Mediterranean Sea, and 35 taxa are also recorded for the first time from Northern Cyprus. Data are also provided concerning the geographical, morphological, and ecological distribution of each species. Sampling was based on 4 different localities (Korucam, Girne, Dip Karpaz, and Gazimağusa) in the Northern Cyprus marine ecosystem supralittoral zone at a depth of 30-35 m in the infralittoral zone between 2006 and 2008. © TÜBİTAK.
