Item Antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of mycelia of 10 wild mushroom species.(2010) Kalyoncu F.; Oskay M.; Saǧlam H.; Erdoǧan T.F.; Tamer A.U.Antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of mycelia obtained from 10 wild edible mushrooms-Armillaria mellea, Meripilus giganteus, Morchella costata, Morchella elata, Morchella esculenta var. vulgaris, Morchella hortensis, Morchella rotunda, Paxillus involutus, Pleurotus eryngii, and Pleurotus ostreatus-were investigated. For determination of antimicrobial activities of these mushrooms, ethanol extracts were examined with 11 test microorganisms by the agar well diffusion method. P. ostreatus and M. giganteus were the most active species against both bacteria and yeast. Antioxidant properties of ethanol extracts were studied by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging method. Among the mushroom extracts, M. elata showed the most potent radical scavenging activity. This research has shown that these 10 wild macrofungi have potential as natural antioxidants and antibiotics.Item Essential oil composition and antioxidant activity of Thymus longicaulis C. Presl subsp. longicaulis var. longicaulis(2010) Sarikurkcu C.; Sabih Ozer M.; Eskici M.; Tepe B.; Can Ş.; Mete E.This study is designed to examine the chemical composition and in vitro antioxidant activity of the hydrodistillated essential oil and various extracts obtained from Thymus longicaulis subsp. longicaulis var. longicaulis. GC and GC-MS analysis of the essential oil were resulted in determination 22 different compounds, representing 99.61% of total oil. γ-terpinene, thymol and p-cymene were determined as the major compounds of the oil (27.80, 27.65 and 19.38%, respectively). Antioxidant activities of the samples were determined by four different test systems namely β-carotene/linoleic acid, DPPH, reducing power and chelating effect. Essential oil showed the highest antioxidant activity in β-carotene/linoleic acid system among the experiments examined. In the case of other test systems, in general, methanol and water extracts exhibited the strongest activity profiles. Especially, reducing power of water extract was found superior than those of synthetic antioxidants. As well as the antioxidant activities of the extracts, they were evaluated in terms of their total phenolic and flavonoid contents. Hexane and water extracts were found to be rich-in phenolics. However, flavonoids were determined in the highest level in methanol extract. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd.Item Synthesis and Spectroscopic Studies of Phenanthroimidazole-Imine Derivatives and Evaluation of Their Antioxidant Activity(Springer New York LLC, 2018) Gülle S.; Erbaş S.Ç.; Uzel A.The phenanthroimidazole derivatives are used in the drug industry in large scale. In this study four new phenanthroimidazole-imine derivatives were synthesized and their spectroscopic studies as well as their antioxidant behaviors were examined. Structural analyses were made by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, LC-MS spectroscopy techniques. UV–vis absorption and emission spectroscopy techniques have been used to determine the photophysical characteristics of four newly synthesized phenanthroimidazoles. The maximum absorption and emission wavelengths, molar extinction coefficients (ε), singlet energy levels (Es), Stokes’ shift values (Δλ) of phenanthroimidazole-imine derivatives are given. Additionally, the antioxidant behavior of all compounds were investigated which the ascorbic acid used as standard molecule in present study. © 2017, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
