Item The efficacy of behavioral modification program and pressure biofeedback method in children with encopresis who were resistant to standard treatment regimens; [Standart tedavilere dirençli enkoprezisli çocuklarda davraniş düzenleme programi ve basinç biofeedback yönteminin etkinliǧi](2005) Tuzun Ç.; Tikiz C.; Ünlü Z.; Kasirga E.Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of pressure biofeedback (BF) method as an adjunct to behavioral modification program on anorectal function and continence restoration in children with encopresis. Materials and methods: Eight children (6 boys and 2 girls) were enrolled in the study. During the first four weeks, behavioral modification program including toilet training, fiber rich diet and conditioning was applied. During the following four weeks, pressure BF training as an adjunct to the behavioral modification program was applied for 60 minutes, two times a week to the children with persistent fecal incontinence. Anorectal function and quality of life were assessed with manometric measurements, Wexner and Holschneider incontinence scoring systems, quality of life measurement and defecation diaries before and immediately after the BF treatment and at 1st month. Results: Significant decrease in resting pressure was detected in manometric anal measurements immediately after the BF treatment and at 1st month (p<0.05). Although a rising trend was observed in maximum squeeze pressure, it did not reach to a statistical significance. A decrease in sensory threshold and an increase in time for half of the maximal squeeze pressure were observed in the manometric pressure measurements (p<0.005). A significant improvement in the quality of life and in the severity of incontinence was also found immediately after the BF treatment and at 1st month. Conclusion: Our study suggests that the application of pressure BF method as an adjunct to behavioral modification program may significantly improve anorectal functions and quality of life in children with encopresis who were resistant to standard treatment regimens.Item An examination of the effect of castor oil packs on constipation in the elderly(2011) Arslan G.G.; Eşer I.This research, conducted at two rest homes in Manisa, Turkey, was undertaken to examine the effect of castor oil pack (COP) administrations on constipation in the elderly. Study participants were monitored for 7 days before, 3 days during, and 4 days after COP administration utilizing the Recall Bias and Visual Scale Analog (RB-VSAQ) as well as the Standard Diary developed by Pamuk et al. Wilcoxon Signed Ranks, Repeated Measures, Bonferroni, and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for data analysis. Eighty percent of study subjects had been constipated for 10 years or longer. COP administration did not have an effect on the number of bowel movements or amount of feces, but decreased the feces consistency score, straining during defecation and feeling of complete evacuation after a bowel movement, thus decreasing symptoms of constipation. We conclude that COP may be used for controlling symptoms of constipation. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd.Item Anorectal malformation with H-type fistula: Which surgical technique?; [H-Tipi Fistüllü Anorektal Malformasyon: Hangi Cerrahi Teknik?](Ortadog u Reklam Tanitim Yayincilik Turizm Egitim Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., 2018) Tanriverdi H.I.; Günşar C.; Şencan A.H-type fistula is a very rare form of anorectal malformations. There is a fistula between anal canal and vestibulum vagen altough anus is located usual and it has a normal openness. One-years-old girl was hospitalized with the diagnosis of anorectal malformation, because of gaita discharge from vestibulum vagen during defecation. The fistule orifice was determined at the left lateral of vestibulum vagen altough the anus is located usual and had normal openness at the physical examination. The catheter, inserted from fistula orifice at the vestibulum, took out just over the dentat line at the anterior wall of the rectum. The anomaly was considered as anorectal malformation with H-type fistula. The fistula was excised with the anterosagittal approach. Recurrence did not determined at the following period of six mounths. There are various surgical techniques for the anorectal malformation with H-type fistula in the literature. In this article, a girl, who had H-type anorectal fistula corrected with anterosagittal approach, was presented and the surgical techniques in the literature were discussed.
