Abstract

OBJECTIVE: This study was performed to evaluated knowledge and opinion about contraceptive method, contraceptive method preferences, to determined effective method with sociodemographic factors belonging married women. STUDY DESING: This study was carried out in Manisa city 7 Number village clinic area between the dates of December 2003-February 2004. The sample of the research is composed of 200 women. The research was a descriptive, analytical study and the data was collected by using questionnare which was prepared by researcher. Data was gathered through the face to face conversation with the women at their home. Data was analyzed using the SPSS 10.0 statistical program. The evaluation of data percentage, mean, Ci-square were used in the statistical analyses. RESULT(s): The findings are as follows of the 200 women analysed: 58 % of women primary school, 38 % of them work, 70.5 % of them middle class, 89.5 % of them having chidren, average of their children number was 2.05. The most known methods was oral contraceptive. Intrauterin device, and condom were second and third most widely known modern method. The most used methods was intrauterin device, second was coitus interruptus, third was combine oral contraceptive. 89.5 % of women who was primary school graduate used modern contraceptive methods. Women with higher educational level were more using a modern contraceptive methods but 22.5% of women still use traditional methods. Effectif contraceptive methods were used by employee women than housewife. Other factors income level, husband's education did affect using modern contraceptive method of women and there were the significant differences between these groups (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: According to this study modern contraceptive method usage rate (77.5%) is high than Turkey average. Education status of women affects use of contraceptive method. As preventing unwanted pregnancies and curettage, they must be encouraged effective contraceptive method, health professional must be education for population about contraceptive methods.
