Abstract
Fireblight disease in pear trees grown in and around Van was observed in 1992-1993. The study was carried out in four towns. Percentages of the infected trees are 38% in Van (central town), 66% in Geva, 63% in Edremit and 75% in Erci. The scale of Van der Zwet (1979) was used to determine the degree of fire blight disease. The disease was found on native pear varieties in different degrees but it never affected the Ankara variety and it was most destructive on Williams variety. The result of the survey, revealed that shoot blight was most occurring symptom of fireblight disease on pear trees. During the study, it was determined that the symptoms of the disease were observed not only in shoots but also in flowers, leaves, branches and fruits of the pear.
