Andropause, or age-related hypogonadism, is a term to describe a decline in testosterone in men. Other terminology for andropause includes male menopause. Although andropause implies an analogy to menopause in women, there are a number of differences between the two conditions. In contrast to menopause, which is associated with a sudden decline in estrogen and progesterone, men experience a gradual and slow decline in testosterone. And as fertility persists until very old age, the andropause, as equivalent of the menopause, does not exist. The purpose of this article is to review current knowledge about the male menopause term, signs, treatment. The healthcare practitioner should more sensitive about andropause and they should inform patients about the hormone replacement therapy.
