Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine public perception and attitudes about the social work profession. This research is a cross-sectional study, carried out with 500 individuals over the age of 18 in the city center of Manisa, Turkey. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire based on self-reports of participants via face-to-face interviews in December 2015. Results show that more than half of the participants had never heard of the social work profession before. Traditional fields such as child protection and care of the elderly are the most known working fields. Participants generally demonstrate a positive attitude about the profession. © The Author(s) 2018.
