Abstract
Based on the importance of games in children’s lives, presentation of toy books can create a desire for reading in children. By offering them toy books, classroom teachers can increase their students’ interest in reading. The aim of this study is to determine preservice classroom teachers’ views related to their experiences of designing toy books. A case study, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in this research. The study group consisted of second-year students (n=84) attending the Classroom Teaching Department at Kafkas University in 2019. The preservice teachers designed toy books according to types of children’s literature. At the end of the study, which lasted 14 weeks, the views of preservice teachers who volunteered (n=52) were obtained. The results show that the preservice teachers benefited from their experiences of designing toy boks. They acquired skills in learning what to consider when choosing children’s books, learning how to design children’s books according to the content and stylistic features that should appear in them, learning how to design toy books, explaining to their students that they would design toy books while practising the teaching profession, and being able to design books with different materials without using paper. © 2022.
