The number of studies carried out about addiction increases day by day. It can be observed that academic studies with qualitative and mixed methods are fewer than studies with quantitative methods. The main purpose of this study is to determine the status of qualitative and mixed-method research in which in-depth answers to the questions of why and how are searched and to reveal the place of addiction in interdisciplinary studies. Research in our country related to tobacco, alcohol, and substance addiction conducted with qualitative and mixed methods was examined. Studies were investigated through the Google Academic and Council of Higher Education Thesis Center without any date limitation. The studies were determined between 2007 to 2020 and accessible studies were examined. After a descriptive analysis of the data, content analysis was used for the determined themes. 53 qualitative and mixed patterned studies are carried out in the databases between 2007-2020 and the highest number of studies were conducted in 2019. Qualitative patterns were used more than mixed patterns. It is seen that the studies are intense in the fields of social sciences. Studies are similar about research design, sampling, sample groups, data collection, and analysis methods included in the sample. It can be said that an interdisciplinary approach is important to examine studies on addiction from a biopsychosocial perspective. Also, it may be suggested to encourage qualitative and mixed-patterned research in the academic field to contribute to the field of addiction. © 2020 The Author(s).
