dc.description.abstract | AIM: Although it is documented that obesity is strongly associated with morbidity and mortality, less is known about the impact of obesity on the health-related quality of life. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of obesity and socio-economic factors on health- related quality of life (HRQoL) in a group women aged 20 to 65. METHODS: The sample size of cross-sectional study were identified 219 women(aged 20 to 65) among 1117 women living in Manisa Nurlupınar area. The data of this study was extracted from a survey. The dependent variables of this study was the domains of the World Health Organization quality of Life Questionnaire abbreviated version (WHOQOL-BREF) and Satisfaction With Life Scale(SWLS). Independent variables were socio-demographic variables, personality variables, relationships and the nutritional variables. RESULTS: The mean BMi of the women was 28,2±5,8. The mean scores of physical, psychological, social relations and the environment domains were determined respectively 14,3±3,2, 13,1±2,6, 13,6±3,2, 13,4±2,3. BMI, age, Household income, adequate food intake, close friends, family relationships, personality perception variables have been found to affect the quality of life in the univariate analysis. BMI was found to be a significant independent predictor of quality of life and life satisfaction in the final regression model. CONCLUSION: obesity as independent of sociodemographic variables negatively affects quality of life and life satisfaction in women. © 2015,Gulhane Military Medical Academy. All rights reserved. | |
