A novel and non-invasive ultrasonic method was developed to measure the oil film thickness (OFT) formed between the piston ring and cylinder wall. The OFT values for each ring were 5-12 μm and matched with published results. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the Proceedings of World Tribology Conference (Kyoto, Japan 9/6-11/2009).
