Abstract

There are some elements in the novel. These elements are: the event, characters, place and time. The novel is a harmonious procession of these elements. The element of time is quite important. There is also a saying that the novel is an art of time. There are usually four different kinds of time in a novel The first one is the time in which the novel is actually ( physically) written. The second is the time of narration in which the story takes place. The third is the time of the narrator, and the fourth is the time of the reader in which a novel is read.. The time in which the events of the novel are taking place also reflects the intention of the author in the sense that the author portrays this specific time period through his or her own intentions. The novel is never free of such intentions therefore it is always bound to be understood along with the intention of the author. In this sense the time in which the author writes becomes quite crucial In the length of this study, three novels shall be discussed accordingly, which are: Yaban by Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoglu, Kucuk Aga by Tarik Bugra and Yorgun Savasci by Kemal Tahir.
