DETERMINATION OF THE TRIBOLOGICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF SnPbCuSb (WHITE METAL) BEARINGS
Abstract
White metals (SnPbCuSb) are extensively used as materials of journal bearings made of tin- and lead-based alloys. We study the tribological and mechanical properties of the journal bearings manufactured from Sn-based SnPbCuSb, pure Sn, pure Pb, alloy elements, and pure Cu metals. A shaft of SAE-1050 steel (journal) was used as a counter abrader. Wear experiments were carried out every 30 min for a total period of 150 min by using a wear test rig with radial journal bearing. It was shown that the lowest friction coefficient in the bearing and the wear loss of the journal occurred in SnPbCuSb alloyed bearings.
