Abstract
The purpose of this research is to determine the levels of empathy of prospective teachers in terms of their department, gender, economic level, grade level and frequency of reading books (excluding text books). The research group consisted of 464 students (252 men, 212 women) at Celal Bayar University Faculty of Education. The mean age of all participants was 21.31 years of age. Forty-six percent of the sample were female and fifty-three male. Descriptive method was used for this research. For gathering data, Empatic Tendency Scale (Dokmen, 1988) and Personal Information Form was used. The results showed that emphatic levels of student were moderately. Statistical comparisons revealed that there was statistically significant difference in levels of empathy of prospective teachers according to their department, economic level and frequency of reading, excluding text books.
