dc.description.abstract | The Ottoman intellectuals, who went on a pilgrimage with caravans, have written various texts in which they give information about the destinations they have lodged and about their service of pilgrimage, and narrate their journey observations. Many such books, which can either be in a poetical or a prosaic form, are located in Written works libraries. There is a book of pilgrimage travels registered to the number 06 Hk 2076/1 in Ankara National Library Adnan Otuken Province Public Library Collection. There is no information whatsoever about this work in contemporary or historical sources. Because of the record at the end of the manuscript, the work is attributed to a poet with the pseudonym of Servet. However, there is not any name of pseudonym mentioned in the text. It is understood by some narratives within verses that the book was written by a female artist with the pseudonym of Servet, who has lived during the 16th century. Written in the form of masnavi poems, this work consists of 9 verses and 135 couplets. Embodying flaws in respect of poetic technique, this book of travels is of significance for including information about the Ottoman geography, along with idioms and archaic words in Turkish. In this article, a brief information about books of pilgrimage travels is given and information gathered by various discussions about the aforementioned book of pilgrimage travels are presented. The results obtained from the examination of the form and content characteristics of the work are given and the translated text of the work is presented to the field of science. | |
